Getting a number of Aquaman fans bemoaning this page of Ensign Sue (my favorite one of the book, btw. Props to Clare Moseley ^_^).
And while I respect their opinion and it warms my heart to see folks defending him, Aquaman being kind of a joke is part of the character’s charm for me and why I find his modern “badass Namor-wannabe” and “cranky pirate” incarnations so dreadfully dull. And frankly, it’s BECAUSE he’s treated like a joke that people get so excited when he does something cool. Otherwise, he’d be just like 75% of all the other comic heroes out there.
I miss a bit of unabashed silliness in my mainstream superheroes. I don’t need everyone to be all “Arkham Asylum” all the time. And I don’t think that “badass” automatically equals “good.” Give me more Super Friends and Batman: B&tB Aquaman, goshdarnit.
I guess that’s just my personality though. :D
