No band in recent memory has risen to fame as quickly and as late in their career as Phoenix. Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix elevated them above all power pop groups and Bankrupt! sees them taking that a step further and making more complex and aesthetically-jarring music. Funny enough, one of the best songs from the new album is one that sounds most like classic Thomas Mars, singing with his trademark nonchalant charm.
