Notes on the Green Beetle
- His name’s B’arzz O’oomm according to Brandon (B’aars O’ohm according to the captions), a reference to Barsoom and not the name of an existing Martian character so far as I have found. He may be one of the only original characters in YJ to have a prominent appearance, unless it turns out he’s a known character in disguise.
- B’aars says he found his scarab about two Earth years ago, but also says that Earth TV has been broadcast to Mars for decades; he doesn’t specify whether these are Earth or Martian decades. A Martian year is about six weeks shorter than two Earth years, so it’s possible that J’onn has been sending Earth TV to Mars for a long time.
- I am highly suspicious of the introduction of a Martian character of uncertain origin in the midst of an arc about the Metagene. Ties between the Martians and the concept of the Metagene are longstanding in DC comics, and it would be unusual for Greg and Brandon to ignore those, with all the existing character references; I would not be surprised to see references to the Sons of Vulcan.

Corect spelling of Green Beetles name
So the Closed Captions for the episode give his name as “B’aars O’ohm”

The proper spelling of the name is actually “B’arzz O’oomm”.

The screech is so creepy…but I can’t stop playing it over and over.
Something is seriously wrong with me…..
Reasons I don’t trust Green Beetle (and you shouldn’t either):

- I LEGITIMATELY SCREAMED AT THAT PART OKAY
- Can we point out how his irises suddenly get really tiny when he smiles like okay that dOES NOT HAPPEN when you smile normally
- His name does not have alliteration.
- I mean really?? B’arzz O’oomm??
- We haven’t seen his Martian form.
- He shifted straight from Green Beetle to that human form - we didn’t see any Martian in between.
- Idk I have vague suspicions that he’s not actually a Martian at all but he has all the powers…
- (maybe he’s Parasite omg)
- THE OBVIOUS: HE SILENCED KHAJI DA
- He looked into M’gann’s mind when she was supposed to be looking into his - M’gann, whose powers are supposedly extremely strong.
- He had no real reaction the knowledge that she was a White Martian. I’m not saying it’s impossible for a non-White Martian to hold no prejudice (if so, M’gann wouldn’t be here in the first place), I’m saying that it just seems really odd.
- God I am so creeped out by the gif I can’t even
- Actually, what he said at that part = “It puts humans at ease, does it not?” or something like that. “PUTS HUMAN ON EASE” just sounds so…sketchy.
- He arrived at almost the same time the Reach did.
- He doesn’t exist in the comics.
