Purpose: Analyse differences in image quality, AF pattern, lesion size using 488nm excitation and 514nm excitation. 

Subjects: >50 year old human subjects, clear ocular media, with geographic atrophy from AMD. n=95 eyes. 

Method: Algorithm identifies border of GA, calculates grey values.

Results:
488nm: better contrast for lesions outside macular region
514nm: easier to identify macular lesions.
image quality is similar for both excitation wavelengths, but GA size differs (probably due to absorption by macular pigment when 488nm is used)

FAF quality is not affected by type of IOL (blue blocking / clear IOL)
Patterns of AF observed: continuous band around GA (seen in 68% of eyes); diffuse areas of increased AF in posterior pole (17% of eyes);
small, focal spots of increased AF in junctional zone between GA and surrounding retina (15%)

Conclusion: different excitation wavelengths give different GA sizes. Important that GA quality is good by having good fixation and clear ocular media.
