Asian Beauty Blog Updates and Stress And Other Things

image

This is my “lightspeedsound is has a ridiculously stressful life” face.

So there’s these things called internships and also exams that are giving me hell right now (urgh mock trials urgh blargh help meh) and I’m sort of scrambling for sleep and time.

Which means, unfortunately, that I will not be able to answer queries re: the Asian beauty blog for a bid. A few days, at least.

BUT if people are interested in writing for the blog (again, I’m looking for all types of asians, of ANY gender, who feel they are qualified to write.  I will say that I’m looking for people are different from me.  I’m a light skinned chinese girl with typical asian hair and dry-er skin. If that doesn’t sound like you, message me. And if that DOES sound like you but you feel like you could contribute something special and cool, message me.) message me.  Actually, I would prefer if you would email  me (lightspeedsound@gmail.com) with the subject line “ASIAN BEAUTY BLOG” and the following information (at least):

a) your tumblr user name/name you prefer to be called (as in both, please, I don’t want to refer to people as “hey you” when I reply to them lol)

b) your looks and appearance

c) why you think you should write for the blog

d) a few ideas for your first posts

e) if you’re up for it, a quick blurb about yourself that shows off your awesomeness and/or your writing style. I’m not talking about your ability to properly use a semi-colon, I’m talking about how you explain shit and how you blog. Ex: if you are an asian person who uses the n-word ironically, I will probably not be too impressed.

Because I want to make this blog really quality and diverse within asian-dom, I’m going to sort through the answers.  However, the write-in process is totally available and open to everyone.

That being said, I’ve decided that the format of the blog is going to be text/tutorial based, updating twice a week (on a rotating schedule of, optimally, 4-5 regular bloggers) with one day a week devoted to answering reader queries and requests.  Readers WILL PROBABLY be directing questions to individual bloggers (as a lot of the blog is going to be advice driven).  That being said, if you feel like you have the skill, time, and level of zen to deal with a blog like this (and I’m pretty sure there’s not only going to be a lot of traffic, there’s also probs going to be a lot of butthurt white beauticians, then go ahead and apply. If you want to apply and you have other cool ideas as to how the blog will be run, that would be awesome too. Be forewarned that all your posts will be PREVIEWED and APPROVED by all the other blog writers before going public.  I insist on that, mainly because I’ve worked on collab blogs before and it’s gone to pieces when someone posts something that should have been caught as problematic and wasn’t.  If you can stand someone combing over your piece for problematic shit and clarity (I’m not one for prescriptive grammar, but I prefer people to be able to write cohesively in a way that is understandable) then probably writing for this blog is not for you.  I don’t mean to scare away anyone; and quite frankly, I think there should be LOTS of asian beauty blogs.  But I also feel like I want to encapsulate the all-around dialogue and equality that was in the conversation last night, and that requires a lot of care in what we say.

once I’ve assembled the team, EVERYONE will have equal say in what we do. I’m not going to be a dictator. I’m going to be a FELLOW MODERATOR, just like everyone else.  I’m just going to set up the rules and the blog and the bloggers, and then I’m going to step back as an equal member of the blog. The only reason I’m taking this much power in the first place is because I suggested it last night, and people have been messaging me since then asking me questions about “my asian beauty blog.”  Stumbled on to responsibility, if you will.

AND PLEASE, THIS IS SUPER IMPORTANT:

This is going to be an asian BEAUTY AND SKIN CARE BLOG. Which means, you might have to do tutorials to really get your point across. MEANING, you should be comfortable with a) showing your face online and b) possibly making videos of yourself and posting them online. If you are not, it’s going to be super hard for you to right comprehensible posts on things like skin care routine and how to do your hair.

Already registered a URL; more information will be forthcoming as soon as we get all the preliminaries out of the way.

PLEASE EMAIL ME AT LIGHTSPEEDSOUND@GMAIL.COM AND DON’T FEEL RESTRICTED BY JUST THE INFORMATION I’VE REQUIRED.  IF THERE’S ANYTHING ELSE YOU’D LIKE TO TELL ME, FEEL FREE TO INCLUDE IT.

Hi~~ do you know where i can buy japanese or chinese beauty products online for cheap--? ex. circle lenses, fake lashes, beauty balms etc. -thanks :-)

SASA is the most popular, it’s good for large hauls, but I typically purchase from Adambeauty because the shipping is so cheap and they have competitive pricing. SASA stuff can be expensive or sold out a lot of the time. Kiwi-Berry. There is also Pretty & Cute. And as always, eBay.

For circle lenses, Soompi has a whole forum dedicated to lenses, including reviews of the lenses and reviews of shops that are well-rated. I always reference there when I’m considering getting circle lenses. And here’s a great list of online sellers - click! Personally, I have bought circle lenses from Pinky Paradise and Kiwiberry.
