Step-by-step, How to make your own DIY pins!

Here’s what you’ll need:

bottlecaps, soda can pull tabs, safety pins, needlenose pliers of some type, and whatever (if anything) you want to use to decorate them.

Bend the soda can pull tab slightly. You can probably do this using your fingers, or by pressing it against a hard surface.

hook the safety pin through the pull tab…

…like so, so that the safety pin is held flat against the pull tab. This is going to be the back of the pin.

Sit the pull tab and safety pin inside the bottlecap of your choice…

And use needlenose pliers to fold the edges of the bottlecap down, so that they hold the pull tab in place. Sometimes it’s tricky to do this in a way that makes the safety pin stay still in one place. It doesn’t really matter, it’ll still stay pinned to stuff even if it shifts around. But with some practice you can also get it to hold pretty solidly in place.

Decorate however you want! I painted this one with nail polish and glued sequins to it. You can paint the surface with nail polish, acrylics, spray paint.. whatever works..leave it blank… write on it with sharpie…. Cut out pictures to glue to them… Put stickers on them… There are so many optionsss. Have fun!

(note that i did not come up with this idea on my own, i found instructions in a zine. I can’t remember what zine.)
