I prefer theoretical physics far more than I do applied physics. I don’t really know why people prefer applied, well I understand that people like to be able to study something that is certain, set and proven, something that has an answer, so if they ask ‘how?’ they get an answer. But then again, what’s so fun about studying something that’s already known and done? I’d much rather try and guess what might be that what is. Asking ‘What if?’ and looking for new things. Sure we have to accept that a lot of things that we guess are wrong, and a lot of them are purely theory, but that’s what makes it so good - it’s not safe like applied physics. And when it comes down to it, everything in applied physics relies on the basis of theoretical physics; that we can’t possibly explain why magnetic fields exist or why galaxies are heavier than they appear, and at least theoretical physics accepts our boundaries in this way and works with them, rather than trying to pretend we know everything be hiding behind applied physics.
Hello, Ate! I've read your post about BS Physics blockmate blah blah. Here I am, Arra Sebastian at your service, incoming freshie. I passed in Bachelor of Science in Applied Physics major in Instrumentation @ UST. But, I'm still thinking about it kasi pasado rin ako sa DLSU (same course). Tulad mo, lahat ng nagtatanong kung anong course ko, ganoon din ang reactions. Mahirap ba talaga yang course na yan? Natatakot na kasi ako.
Hi there future blockmate, if ever :) Well, in my own opinion hindi but oo if you’re one hell of a lazy student like me. Haha. Pero actually hindi siya mahirap, basta masipag ka lang mag-aral. If gifted ka pagdating sa mathematical skills, mas mapapadali yung pagaaral mo. Wala namang mahirap basta masipag ka. It’s up to you kung saan mo gusto i-pursue yung Physics pero I recommend you to take it in UST. Not being biased or anything, pero magaling sila magturo sa UST and masaya ang college life sa UST even if first year ka pa lang. I assure you that :)
Gusto ko i-publish. Proud ako eh. Hahaha.
