[…] Over the past two years, as I have moved to break the betrayal of my own silences and to speak from the burnings of my own heart, as I have called for radical departures from the destruction of Vietnam, many persons have questioned me about the wisdom of my path.
At the heart of their concerns this query has often loomed large and loud: “Why are you speaking about the war, Dr. King?” “Why are you joining the voices of dissent?” “Peace and civil rights don’t mix,” they say. “Aren’t you hurting the cause of your people,” they ask? And when I hear them, though I often understand the source of their concern, I am nevertheless greatly saddened, for such questions mean that the inquirers have not really known me, my commitment or my calling. Indeed, their questions suggest that they do not know the world in which they live.
In the light of such tragic misunderstanding, I deem it of signal importance to try to state clearly, and I trust concisely, why I believe that the path from Dexter Avenue Baptist Church — the church in Montgomery, Alabama, where I began my pastorate — leads clearly to this sanctuary tonight.
I come to this platform tonight to make a passionate plea to my beloved nation. This speech is not addressed to Hanoi or to the National Liberation Front. It is not addressed to China or to Russia. Nor is it an attempt to overlook the ambiguity of the total situation and the need for a collective solution to the tragedy of Vietnam. Neither is it an attempt to make North Vietnam or the National Liberation Front paragons of virtue, nor to overlook the role they must play in the successful resolution of the problem. While they both may have justifiable reasons to be suspicious of the good faith of the United States, life and history give eloquent testimony to the fact that conflicts are never resolved without trustful give and take on both sides.
Tonight, however, I wish not to speak with Hanoi and the National Liberation Front, but rather to my fellow Americans…[…]

Con la excepción de la región Antártica, Estados Unidos mantiene bases en todos los continente, en alrededor de 130 países. El patrimonio inmobiliario del ejército de EE.UU. es de 32 mil cuarteles, 3717 terrenos, hangares, hospitales, edificios de su propiedad y 16 mil más en alquiler; ocupando en total más de 120 trillones de m² (120.675.202.701.0 m²), casi el tamaño de Corea del Norte, solo cerca de 3 billones de m² (2.781.594.621.1 m²) en suelo extranjero. Estas cifras bautizan al Pentágono como el mayor terrateniente del mundo; súmele las 14 mil aeronaves, 280 embarcaciones, 900 misiles estratégicos, 330 mil vehículos tácticos y de combate terrestre, en su inventario, aparecen en el 2005, según documentos oficiales accesibles al público, también 737 bases militares en territorios extranjeros, obviamente estos números no alcanzan la cantidad real.
Debido a la estrategia de “guerras preventivas” y el continuo desplazamiento de tropas, este imperio militar sigue creciendo; “Para poner en marcha las “guerras preventivas” necesitamos una presencia mundial, lo que quiere decir, obtener la hegemonía en los lugares que todavía no se encuentran en nuestro dominio”, afirma el Gral. de Brigada Marina, Mastin Robeson de la base Camp Lemonier, en Djibuti.
Por medio de la burocracia, Washington sigue violando reglamentos internacionales sobre acuerdos de desarme, mientras políticamente acusa e invade un país “terrorista”, encabezando la campaña armamentista; sin permiso protocolar, las fuerzas armadas introducen tropas, aviones, barcos y submarinos en aguas y espacios aéreos extranjeros, sin considerar daños ambientales, realizan entrenamientos y maniobras con armas de destrucción masiva químicas, biológicas y neurotoxicas, armas que causan daños a largo plazo, silenciosamente, ejemplo de ello, el uso en Iraq de uranio empobrecido. Por temor a las consecuencias que conlleva ser cómplices del imperialismo en algunos casos los mismos países anfitriones intentan no divulgar la existencia de bases estadounidenses en sus suelos, y del “apoyo” que reciben, estos se llaman “oficialmente soberanos”, mas se ven convertidos en satélites de la primera potencia y solo se limitan a ser una neo colonia, un valor en el mercado.
Esta vasta red de instalaciones, son centros de maniobras militares, de fuerza de despliegue rápido, de logística, entrenamiento, almacenamiento y disposición de armas nucleares, además son puntos de monitoreo y observación. Su política imperial de vigilancia implica que en las bases secretas, se supervise con complejos dispositivos para la escucha camuflada de comunicaciones mundiales, interceptando radios, correos electrónicos, faxes, etc. Mas de medio millón de soldados, espías, técnicos, Instructores, auxiliares y funcionarios civiles fuera de EE.UU., a parte de las comodidades más burguesas, gozan de varios entretenimientos, como centros de ocio, cines, fast-foods, vacaciones en Resorts, si usted formara parte de esta firma militar podría visitar alguno de los 241 campos de golf que el Pentágono brinda en todo el mundo, incluyendo su familia. El servicio militar hoy es voluntario y ser fascista es una buena carrera; el aseo de las letrinas, el correo, las cocinas militares y la lavandería son tareas rutinarias que ya no se cumplen, de estas se ocupan ciertas compañías privadas especializadas en brindar estos servicios.
Los tiempos han cambiado, en otra época se media la expansión y grandeza de un imperio contando sus colonias, en nuestros días las bases militares impuestas contra la voluntad de los pueblos son una forma de dominación colonial. Estas grandes fortalezas, son tanto una agresión a la soberanía e independencia de los estados como una amenaza para la paz y la seguridad internacional, son centros de corrupción, trasgresión cultural, y sirven de pretexto perfecto para que el gobierno de EE.UU. esté presente en un país en calidad de salvador-conquistador.
