“The consolation of fairy-stories [is] the joy of the happy ending: this joy, which is one of the things which fairy-stories can produce supremely well, is not essentially "escapist," nor "fugitive." In its fairy-tale -- or otherworld -- setting, it is a sudden and miraculous grace: never to be counted on to recur. It does not deny the existence of dyscatastrophe, of sorrow and failure: the possibility of these is necessary to the joy of deliverance; it denies universal final defeat and in so far is evangelium, giving a fleeting glimpse of Joy, Joy beyond the walls of the world.”

“I’ll Make a Man Out of You” — the UCLA Scattertones

Personal Note:

Many of our KNOWhomo family and friends consider the featured song to be a personal anthem. We wanted to share it with them. As for everyone else, just take a minute to enjoy some great acapella. -R.

Heavy Feet

“Heavy Feet” by Local Natives // Hummingbird (Out 1.28.13 via Frenchkiss)

As we creep ever closer to the official release date of the new Local Natives album, we continue to get random samples from the release. This being the third, and surely the most promising sample to date, is “Heavy Feet”. Having not been a particularly large fan of the last album, I’m finding myself wondering if i should go back and give it another listen because this explosive, heart-on-sleeve, anthem has me wondering if they’ve always been this good and I just managed to miss the promise. Here the band sounds like they’ve taken some of The National’s rhythm section, some of Grizzly Bear’s dreamy vocal deliveries, and some of Animal Collective’s explosive build (when AnCo is focused on such things) and created some all encompassing indie powerhouse. We shall see then the full length, “Hummingbird” gets released at the end of the month, in the meantime, “Heavy Feet” will keep the excitement high.
