“I believe we can keep the promise of our founders, the idea that if you're willing to work hard, it doesn't matter who you are or where you come from or what you look like or where you love. It doesn't matter whether you're black or white or Hispanic or Asian or Native American or young or old or rich or poor, able, disabled, gay or straight, you can make it here in America if you're willing to try”

Barack Obama, victory speech (Nov 7, 2012)

See, this right here really really REALLY pisses me off. I don’t care who is saying it, this is some straight-up white-washing of history. I’m sure this is the version of history Obama was taught at Harvard and he’s parroting it shamelessly. I mean, “our founders”?! “OUR” founders? These people were slave-owners who despised women, workers, people of color … and how can you even mention the word “Native American” in the same sentence as “our founders” and not talk about the fact that Native Americans may not have “made it here in America” not because they weren’t “willing to try,” but because “OUR founders” and this government carried out a genocide against them, for which real reparations have yet to even be paid!?

Of course, the whole “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” shit is just pure conservative garbage. The fact is, that you can’t talk about working-class Americans improving their living standards without talking about unions, strikes, and the need to fight against the corporations, banks, financiers, and their political backers who make money by exploiting aforementioned working-class Americans.

For real, though. These are the kind of lies that traditional Republicans say about America; not progressives … I say, shame on Obama. And shame on any liberals or progressives who fail to see through this garbage.
