March 16, 1751: President James Madison is Born

On this day in 1751, the fourth president of the United States, James Madison, was born in Virginia. Madison was part of the Democratic-Republican party and served as president from 1809-1817.

James Madison will always be remembered as the “Father of the Constitution,” contributor for framing the Bill of Rights, author of the Federalist papers, participant of the Constitutional Convention, and as president of the United States.

450 PBS Documentaries On Sale -- Many up to 50% off!

amazon.com

I know that you don’t visit my blog for shameless plugs, but if I didn’t know this information and someone told me it, I would be very thankful.  I LOVE documentaries from PBS, particularly the American Experience series and, of course, any of the Ken Burns documentaries.  A little-known-secret about me that many ex-girlfriends would have found handy is that I can never sit still or stay in one place very long unless I have a good book in my hands or a PBS documentary is on TV.  I can barely sit through one movie, but if you sit me in front of a TV and turn on a Ken Burns series like The Civil War, I’ll sit through all 10 hours of it and be sad when it’s over.

So, when I saw that Amazon currently has a sale on 450 — that’s FOUR HUNDRED AND FIFTY — of PBS’s awesome documentaries, with deals of up to 50% off, until August 6th, I was excited.  In fact, I got so excited that I decided I should share it with you.  Before I shared it with you, however, I went to Amazon and spent way more money than I should have in order to get hours upon hours of documentaries.  Even though the sale lasts until August 6th, I decided that it would be best if I ordered a bunch of DVDs — single documentaries as well as boxed sets — ASAP.

The great thing that I noticed is that while the advertisement says “up to 50% off” and most of the documentaries do fall in between 40%-50% off, there are some with even deeper discounts.  The boxed set for the legendary Ken Burns series, The Civil War, is on sale at 57% off.  A follow-up series from Ken Burns, The West, is available at 55% off.  And an older documentary series, but perhaps the best documentary series that PBS has ever done — Eyes On The Prize: America’s Civil Rights Years: 1954-1965, narrated by Julian Bond — is on sale at 71% off!

I won’t tell you how much money I spent on PBS documentaries today, but I will tell you that if you need to see one of the many documentaries that Ken Burns has done for PBS, it’s safe to say that you can come over to my place and it will be here.  The same thing goes for many of the American Experience DVDs (I wonder if I can write these DVDs off in my taxes and say I use them for my job?).  With the sheer number of titles that PBS has in their library, I think everyone can find something they like.  While I think that anybody who doesn’t like Ken Burns is probably secretly in al-Qaeda, you don’t have to be a Burns fan to benefit from the PBS sale because there are so many different kinds of documentaries available from American Experience to NOVA to Nature to Frontline.  I personally love Ken Burns and his work despite the fact that he gets his hair cut at the same place as Lego people, so this sale is like Christmas for me — except I actually get presents this time.

If I’m correct, I would imagine you’re following my Tumblr because we share similar interests and PBS documentaries are one of those interests.  Go check out this awesome sale on Amazon, which lasts until August 6th.  Don’t spend as much money as I did because it’s not too late for you to enjoy meaningful personal relationships with other human beings.  If you do spend as much money as I did, then maybe we should be friends and watch our PBS documentaries together.
