Alt Hip Hop: Bangkok Blend - Blended EP

I met Brain C of Bangkok Blend a lil while ago at a garage show when my band was on tour. He showed me this hip hop video he made on his phone & it was kinda hard to hear on his phone but it seemed sweet, & then I watched it again when I got back from tour & I was like, “damn this is pretty sweet actually lol.”

Now he’s dropped a new EP, the “Blended EP,” & I just listened to it, & I love what he’s doing.

The first song starts with this Shrek sample:

Maybe I could have decapitated an entire village

and put their heads on a pike,

gotten a knife, cut open their spleen, and drink their fluids,

Does that sound good to you?

Brain C responds, “Sounds awesome Shrek.”

Brain C is a white kid in high school who is straight up Doing his Thing via hip hop.

His whole EP has this nice aesthetic I can’t really describe. The closest thing I can think to compare Bangkok Blend to is, like, a mix between Lil B & SNCK PCK, but it’s not even like that really. It makes me pumped, & it makes me confused, & I like it.

PS1 load-screen noises sit in the beat of a song that includes his literal dad rapping.

“The internet’s obsession with sloths is getting out of hand,” Brain raps. “But fuck it, I want to stick it to the big man.”

Bangkok Blend is Kanye West #2. But he does not try to copy other people’s styles. The best part about the Blended EP—the best part about all good artists, really—is that they are completely themselves.

I literally can’t imagine anyone else making the music Brain C’s making. Only he can provide us with the Shrek quotes & anti-capitalist sentiments we need to satisfy our internet hip-hop hungers. I’m going to continue to follow his swag, & so can you.
