Tell Us Which Songs Make You Cry : All Songs Considered Blog
npr.orgSometimes the melody or the singer’s voice alone is enough to start the waterworks. But more often than not it reminds us of a time or a place or a person. Go to our Soundcloud page and record yourself telling us about the song that always makes you cry. No need to prepare an essay or anything, you can just ad-lib it. Tell us your first name, where you’re from, the song and why it makes you weepy. We’ll use some of the stories we get in an upcoming episode of All Songs Considered.
TdoubleB note: These songs do it to me
1. “When Did You Stop Loving Me” by Marvin Gaye
2. “Giving Up” by Donny Hathaway
3. “Fragile” by Sting (the version from “All This Time”)
4. “The Battle is the Lord’s” by Yolanda Adams

St. Vincent’s new B-side GROT is the opening song on NPR’s All Songs Considered podcast.
In addition to being an excuse to post this song again; there is a rather interesting bit of information at the very end of the track about a future release in other formats. Thanks David U!
New Music: Baths, Jim Jarmusch, Sam Phillips, More
NPR's All Songs ConsideredIf the experimental, idiosyncratic filmmaker Jim Jarmusch formed a band, what kind of music would it play? On this episode of All Songs Considered, you can hear the answer with a new song and EP from the group Jarmusch calls SQÜRL.
Also on the show: Remarkable new electronic music from Baths; the atmospheric English pop trio Daughter; beautiful, ramshackle pop from singer Sam Phillips; power punk and a healthy dose of humor from The Front Bottoms and the melodic and transfixing rock of Lemuria.
“But the idea of "music snobbery" is right up there with "guilty pleasures" in the realm of premises that ought to be rejected out of hand. The best way to avoid alienating others with music snobbery is to reject snobbery in all its forms, just as the best way to avoid feeling embarrassed about the things you like is to embrace them, publicly and proudly; to reject the notion of embarrassment itself.”
—Stephen Thompson, “What To Enjoy And How To Enjoy It”New Music From The Polyphonic Spree, Jon Hopkins, Eleanor Friedberger, More
All Songs ConsideredThis week, All Songs Considered goes big with massive, heart-thumping new music from the gloriously exuberant, sprawling pop group The Polyphonic Spree, and the brilliantly experimental folk-rock band Akron/Family. We also check out a gritty album from a Swedish group known as Goat, whose music is part prog-rock, part Afro-pop and undeniably awesome. Also on the show: New solo music from Eleanor Friedberger, formerly half of the duo Fiery Furnaces, and electronic music genius Jon Hopkins.
Two new songs via NPR!

NPR: All Songs Considered: Guest DJ Jonsi
I’ve been listening to this interview with Jonsi from 2010 and it made me feel so good. Jonsi talks about his childhood and stuff, puts his favorite music on… His voice always puts me at peace (even his speaking voice, it turns out, not only his singing voice).
Cherry-Picking Pop Music's 'Good Parts' : All Songs Considered Blog : NPR
npr.orgYou Look Nice Today, one of my favorite podcasts, had the same thought a few years ago. The show is a free-form conversation with one consistent theme: At some point, one of the three hosts will pitch the others a business proposal for an imaginary product. In the 2009 episode, “The Good Part,” that product was a song made entirely out of the best moments from other songs —- beginning with “In the Air Tonight” and cycling through two dozen more.
Thanks a million, Daoud. You’re a gentleman, and we’re very proud to count you as a fan. High Five.
