WREN IS A
Okay so in this post I’m going to gather all the theories and clues of why I’m certain Wren is A. There are a lot of theories so please bare with me.
1x01 - Wren offers and gives Spencer a massage, and she finds it quite satisfying. In 2x10, A gives Emily a massage without her knowing who it is. She states that the massage ‘feels great’.
It couldn’t have been Mona because she was with Hanna, or Toby because he was with Spencer. Wren gives great massages which point to him.
1x02 - Wren is out for dinner with the Hastings family (except Veronica) and he orders a vodka soda.
In 3x03 & 3x04, A is drinking a liquor that looks very similar to the drink Wren ordered in 1x02. The drink has vodka in it and they all have limes in them. A is very freely drinking the vodka in a public airport, therefore A has to be a legal age to drink in public.
1x04 - The four girls block all unknown numbers and emails. Later on Wren breaks into Spencer’s house and mentions that he has been trying to call her but she has blocked his number. Why would Wren’s number be blocked if she knew him?
2x01 - A texts Melissa’s phone the name of their baby. Wren had become friends with Melissa at this stage and she could have told him the name of their baby.
2x04 - A trashed Dr Sullivans office and left a message on the wall in red spray paint saying “Nosey Bitches Die”.
See how it is spelt ‘Nosey’? In the American dictionary it’s spelt ‘Nosy’, but in the British/English dictionary it’s spelt ‘Nosey’. Wren is British. Also, I believe Marlene King had confirmed that this was a clue.
2x08 - Emily is in hospital after suffering from a stomach ulcer. Wren informs Emily that they have found high levels of HGH (Human Growth Hormone) in her system. We saw in 2x07 that A was injecting a substance in a bottle, which turns out to be the pain relief cream that Emily was using. Wren would have easy access to injections like HGH as he is a doctor.
2x09 - Emily receives a text from A saying “Reminder: I own you. -A” and attached is a picture of her Laboratory Results indicating she has high levels of HGH in her system. Only a doctor would be able to access these files.
2x12 - The girls receive dolls telling them what they have to do. Spencers doll says “Keep Toby safe” and the only way she knew how to do this was to break up with him. Wren was in love with Spencer at this time, and as soon as she broke up with Toby, Wren was around and kissed her. Marlene King has confirmed that A’s motive is love.
2x16 - Spencer finds a bag of phones and a packet of gum with a receipt for magazines in her lake house. The receipt shows that it is from Smitty’s which is located in Philadelphia. Wren lives in Philadelphia. In 2x14, A dropped their mobile phone when Hanna hit him with a car, which had pictures of chucky dolls at Spencer’s lake house. Once A realises that the phone is missing, he becomes very aggressive and starts to smash the windows on their car with frustration. A shows great anger issues here, and it makes me believe that they may have a mental illness, which leads me to 3x02. In 3x02, Wren is talking to Hanna at Radley about Mona, he mentions that he has gone through the same ‘ambiguous loss’ as she has because his dad had Schizophrenia when he was a kid. Schizophrenia affects the functioning of the brain which can also mean that they have a split personality disorder. It is a hereditary illness, so it is possible that Wren might have inherited it from his father. There are many types of Schizophrenia which give many different symptoms. Paranoid Schizophrenia patients often show anger and suspiciousness. This sounds a lot like A, especially when he is smashing the car windows. Also, some patients are convinced that they are god, the president, or the leader. The word Wren means ruler.
3x01- Wren states that he volunteers at the Sanitarium a few days a month, but he is always there. My guess is so he can keep in touch with Mona. A sends the four girls a message saying “Mona played with dolls, I play with body parts. Game on bitches.” Wren’s a doctor, he literally does play with body parts for a living.
3x03 - I’m not quite sure if this is a clue, but I’ll say it anyway. Right next to the drink is a Wrench, all the other tools are spread out but I find it strange how it’s right next to “A’s” drink. When I think of a Wrench I think of Wren. Wren/ch.
3x04 - A is supposedly ‘hacking’ into the Radley Sanitarium website so Mona is allowed to have visitors. Why hack when you work there and have access to the information. While changing the status of Mona’s visitors, A is waiting at the Montecito airport. This was the episode where A pushed Caleb’s mother off the side of the road. It could have very easily been Wren being jealous.
3x07 - Office Wilden comes by Hanna’s house and wants to take a blood sample, as the Bracelet that was handed in by Jason & Spencer has blood on it that is the same type as hers. Later on, Aria and Hanna walk into the kitchen to see an Ouija board on her counter, and when she flips the hand piece over, it pricks her, making her bleed. The note says “See how easy it is for me to get your blood?”
In 1x11 Hanna was in the hospital after getting hit by a car. The hospital would have had to take blood samples for tests. This can be easily accessed by doctors. Wren is a doctor at the Hospital.
3x08 - Wren convinced Hanna to talk to the board in letting Mona stay in Radley. He needs her around.
3x10 - A traps Hanna & Emily in Noel Kahn’s cabin where Hanna deeply cuts herself. When they escape, a message left by A says “I’m saving you for later”. Later on Hanna gets her wound stitched up by Wren, and he gets his hands on her blood, like A has said how easy it is. By cleaning up her wounds with bandages, he was literally saving her for later.
When A goes to change the channel, the shot focuses on the remote which is on a box. On the box it says ‘Hopkins’ which is a Medical school. Then A starts hanging up hoodies in a very neat, OCD-like way. Wren has mentioned to Spencer in 2x21 that he has OCD.
3x12 - Mona escapes from Radley wearing a nurse outfit with a fake ID. Wren has easy access to the outfits.
3x13 - The double clone costume of Caleb is taller than Hanna. At the end of the episode, it suggests that Mona was the one in the mask as it is under her bed. But Mona is shorter than Hanna, however Wren is taller than her.
And the person under the mask has an Adams apple. Also they are hugging Hanna, and Wren has feelings for Hanna.
- Marlene King has tweeted that the third A who is revealed is someone that is quite well known and has been in the plot since the first episode.
- “In the season finale we will see Wren in a way we haven’t before” Maybe this means we’ll find out he’s A.
- Is Wren a good person? “no comment” (Andy Reaser)
- A buys a lot of expensive things and has a lot of money. The wage of a doctor is quite high so he would be fairly wealthy. E.g. Melissa’s ring, paid the doll shop owner a lot of money, 3x08 A counts $50,000 at a bank and takes it, etc.
There was an interview with ‘A’ and here are some of the questions & answers:
Q: What is your new years resolution?
A: More Cardio.
Cardio refers to cardiology. Which deals with the abnormalities of the heart. Wren is a doctor
Q: Who do you now view as the weak link and why?
A: I’m more interested in the strongest liar.
The strongest liar is known to be Spencer. And we all know Wren has always liked Spencer
Q: You seem to break up all the couples - which of the girl’ boyfriends are you most interested in?
A: Toby. Wait… what do you mean by interested? ;)
Do I even have to explain…
Q: Why do you hate the girls so much?
A: There’s a thin line between love and hate.
Wren loves Spencer yet tortures her
Q: Favourite trick you’ve played on the girls ever?
A: Emily’s massage.

As you can see there are so many reasons to why Wren is A, and I’m sure there will be more.
