Every time that particular string quartet played, something bad happened, i.e. someone had a heart attack, a car came through the building etc. So they decided that they would strive to be like the band on the Titanic, and not let disaster stop them from playing. That’s why the Schubert piece continues even as Loki brutally removes the gentleman’s eyeball, and only stops when we are outside. The quartet was still inside, and still playing until their piece was finished.
