When I first started learning, http://lrnj.com/ the free part of this program really helped me to memorize hirigana/katakana. Its in a game format and you have to attack the slimes by saying what each hirigana/katakana is. Its actually pretty fun.;;

This reminds me though, there are quite a few good games on the Nintendo DS for Japanese (although, I haven’t checked any 3DS games out there, but maybe I’ll look up a few and mention them at some point).
