Very, very much unexpected.

I’m really not sure how I feel about this. I guess we’ll find out. no Trishula after all lol. All the traps are getting hit and no heavy, no shock master, no monster reborn (finally), and no solemn judgment. I like that they’re hitting staples because it leaves more room for creativity in decks. like bottomless to 1, torrential to 1, CED to 1,  and d-prison to 2. also, zombie format.

So according to this post on konami’s yugioh blog, as of the YCS at the end of January in Atlanta, the top 16 players of each YCS will not play out the rest of the tournament with their original decks, but instead with newly drafted Battle Pack 2 round 2 decks. Which is just crazy. At first I was thinking, what if your first pack has a Vajrayana in it? Seems kind of useless in a draft, but fortunately, according to these rules, the ultra rare cards that come in Bp2r2 aren’t meant to be included in the draft. The whole thing still sounds pretty sketch to me though because I drafted with Bp2, which was not that good, and Bp2r2 is only designed as a supplement, which I feel can only fix so much. Playing a Bp2 draft felt like I was playing an archaic version of yugioh which displays a player’s luck much more than his skill. Bp2r2 hasn’t all been announced, so nobody can say for sure how well it will work out, or if it’s tournament worthy (especially as a standard final decider), but I have my doubts.

New Gravekeeper’s Support Cards Announced!

You may have noticed already, but Legacy of the Valiant has a handful of new GK support cards, and I think a lot of people are excited to see them released. There’s four monsters, a continuous spell, and a counter trap.
In my opinion, they’re all pretty solid cards. The new spell and trap cards are very control-type, but require both a necrovalley and gravekeeper to be face up on the field. The spell, necrovalley shrine, prevents both players from special summoning. The counter trap, necrovalley tomb, negates any card effect and destroys that card. Gravekeeper’s Shaman takes a tribute to summon, but protects your necrovalley and makes it easier to keep your opponent on hold, also preventing your opponent from using monster effects that activate in the graveyard. Gravekeeper’s Ambusher can recycle your necrovalley's from the grave, making it nearly impossible for you to run out of necrovalley's to use.

Gravekeeper’s Disciple and Gravekeeper’s Prophet are a little more difficult to pull off but are both still viable in my opinion.

I love when Konami actually releases support for old archetypes (even if it’s control).

Jewel Flare Stardust Dragon 11/5/13!_5D%27s_Volume_5_promotional_card

Konami announced a while back that Jewel Flare Stardust Dragon will be released in early November as a manga promo, just before the release of Shadow Specters. In case you’re unfamiliar with the card:

1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters

Once per turn, during either player’s turn: You can target 1 face-up card you control; once during this turn, it cannot be destroyed by battle or by card effects.

This card is crazy good, and i think it’ll be a big deal for synchro decks, especially control-style ones. It’s almost like a mix between stardust and master key beetle. So far, i’ve seen the card combo really well with safe zone and vylon prism. 3500 beater with spell speed 2 spot protection? crazy good. between this guy and it’s RDA counter part, i think that hunder’s will have some serious potential in the future, along with any level 8 synchro deck.

Mystical Refpanel increasing in price!

I was checking the front page of yugiohprices, and I saw mystical refpanel, a card I didn’t even know exists. Apparently it’s increasing in price, so I checked it out. The text is very, very vague:

"Activate only when a Spell Card that targets 1 player is activated. The effect of that Spell Card is applied to the other player instead."

Basically, what this means is that you can chain this card to spells that

1. Increase 1 player’s Life Points.
2. Inflict Direct Damage to 1 player’s Life Points.
3. Allow 1 player to draw a card(s) from the top of their Deck to their hand.
4. Cause 1 player to discard from their hand.
5. Modify the actions 1 player can take, such as Mesmeric Control.

So if your opponent activates Cards of Consonance (very popular right now in dragon decks), you can chain mystical refpanel, and you will draw 2 instead of having your opponent draw 2, which is essentially a +3. Other commonly used cards this card can be beneficial against include
Pot of duality (it shouldn’t work but it’s been ruled that it does)
destiny draw
allure of darkness (note that you have to banish a dark monster after drawing)
cards for black feathers
sacred sword of seven stars

It doesn’t work if the card affects both players on resolution, like upstart goblin, or if it sends cards from the deck to the graveyard, like foolish burial or solar recharge.

I think this card is quite viable and could possibly continue to increase in value, especially if dragon decks continue to do well in upcoming tournaments. It might be a good idea to buy yours sooner than later.

Shadow Specters TCG Exclusives Continued!

The latest exclusive announcement is a big one. Lady of the Lake, a tuner for the noble knight archetype. her text reads:

Cannot be used as a Synchro Material Monster, except for the Synchro Summon of a Warrior-Type monster. If this card is used for a Synchro Summon, banish it. When this card is Normal Summoned: You can target 1 “Noble Knight” Normal Monster in your Graveyard; Special Summon that target. If this card is in your Graveyard: You can target 1 Level 5 “Noble Knight” monster you control; reduce its Level by 1, and if you do, Special Summon this card from the Graveyard.

It sounds to me like noble knights are about to get their own level 5 synchro. We won’t know for sure until then how good this lady is, but you can bet he’s gonna be good the way konami is pushing this archetype.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! They’re finally announcing TCG exclusives for Shadow Specters. Our first two are Noble Knight Borz and Vampire Duke. Both are really good if you ask me. Here are the card texts:

Noble Knight Borz (level 4, light, warrior, 1700/900)

This card is treated as a Normal Monster while face-up on the field. While equipped with a “Noble Arms” Equip Spell Card, this card becomes an Effect Monster with this effect.

● This card becomes DARK and its Level is increased by 1. During your Main Phase: You can reveal 3 “Noble Arms” cards from your Deck, have your opponent randomly add 1 of them to your hand, and send the rest to the Graveyard. You can only use this effect of “Noble Knight Borz” once per turn.

Vampire Duke (level 5, dark, zombie, 2000/0)

When this card is Normal Summoned: You can target 1 DARK “Vampire” monster in your Graveyard; Special Summon that target in face-up Defense Position. When this card is Special Summoned: You can declare 1 card type (Monster, Spell, or Trap); your opponent sends 1 card of that type from their Deck to the Graveyard. You can only use this effect of “Vampire Duke” once per turn. This card cannot be used as an Xyz Material for an Xyz Summon, except for the Xyz Summon of a DARK monster.

Synchro Comeback?

Konami has been announcing/releasing a lot of new synchros lately, perhaps to even the odds with xyz monsters. But man, some of these synchros are insane. Honestly, i think there’s a good chance that synchros will be filling the top tier extra decks once they’re released for TCG. Here’s the latest big deal:

Jeweled Red Dragon Archfied

1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters

Once per turn, during your Main Phase 1: You can destroy all other face-up Attack Position monsters on the field. Other monsters cannot attack during the turn you activate this effect.

This guy is absolutely crazy. You will not be able to over extend against a level 8 synchro deck. Even if you don’t over extend, he’ll just blow up your one monster and attack for 3k. Time to find some cards with high defense.

Jewel Flare Dragon Stardust (lol there’s no way they’ll keep this name)

1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters (level 8)

Once per turn, during either player’s turn: You can target 1 face-up card you control; once during this turn, it cannot be destroyed by battle or by card effects.

This card is basically invincible vs. destruction, and with Vylon Prism (i’ve seen the combo used in thunder decks) he’s a hecka mean beater. Plus if he’s safe zoned, he’s just as hard to remove as a master key beetle.

Angel of Zera

One of the key weaknesses to a lot of synchro decks is their use of the graveyard, which means macro often kills it really fast. This guy is the perfect answer. depending on the deck, their only out may be CED

Dragoascension, Supreme Dragon of the Heavens

1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters (level 10)

When this card is Synchro Summoned: This card gains 800 ATK for each card in your hand. When this card on the field is destroyed by an opponent’s card and sent to the Graveyard while all the Synchro Material Monsters used for its Synchro Summon are in your Graveyard: You can Special Summon them. Their effects are negated. You can only use this effect of “Dragoascension, Supreme Dragon of the Heavens” once per turn.

Not only does this card fill in the a big gap for synchros being a generic level 10 synchro, but it’s really good.

not to mention all the new synchros released in JOTL

Personally, i think that decks that can spam level 8 synchros, like dragunities, or run masked chameleon, like atlanteans, might find themselves in the top tier sometime in the near future.

New TCG Exclusive, XYZ Encore

So XYZ Encore is a new TCG exclusive announced in Judgment of the Light. it’s a quick play spell that reads:

Target 1 face-up Xyz Monster your opponent controls that has Xyz Material; detach all Xyz Materials from it, and if you do, return it to the Extra Deck, then, if there is a Monster Card in the Graveyard among those detached Xyz Materials, Special Summon as many of those monsters as possible from the Graveyard to your opponent’s side of the field in face-up Defense Position. Their Levels are reduced by 1 on the field. Cards and effects cannot be activated in response to this card’s activation.

So basically, you can use it to get over an xyz that’s tough to get over on your turn, or you can use it to interrupt your opponent’s play on their turn. I doubt the card will see play because it’s a little bit difficult to fully utilize, but i see some potential, particularly with Maxx “C”. Imagine you’re opponent is pushing through your Maxx “C” and giving you the extra draw to xyz summon with the two tour guides they just played. Then as soon as that monster is out, you play XYZ Encore. They’re monster returns to the extra deck, and the tour guides come back, and you draw again from Maxx “C”. Then, unless they have a gachi, they probably are left with two useless tour guides, or whatever monsters they were using.

This card is also AMAZING for decks that really struggle with Ophion, because it is an instant out and it’s basically the only spell card that can’t be stopped by Pandemic

So it’s really good with Maxx “C”, but i doubt it’ll ever get main deck’d. We’ll see.

anonymous said:

can we get an update with duelist alliance cards please on the app.

We will soon be releasing an app update that includes an includes all of the Duelist Alliance cards in its internal database.

In the meantime however, you can manually update your app to include these cards by going to “Settings”, and then tapping the “Update Cards Database” button.

More Accurate Prices with

With any card listed on you can at a glance see what that particular card’s low, average, and high prices are.

In an earlier post we explained how we calculate accurate and realistic average prices for cards by ignoring outlier prices that would radically alter the overall average price of the card through the use of standard deviations.

Well we’ve just finished implementing some new logic for how our website and app handles determining the highest price for a card that also uses standard deviations!  With this new logic, cards with listings whose prices are radically higher than all the other listings for that card will be ignored when calculating the highest price for that card.

So for example in the listings shown in the image above for Hysteric Sign we see that the highest priced listing for that card is set at $99.99, whereas the second highest listing is set at $12.98!  With our new algorithm for determining the highest price of a card, the high price for Hysteric Sign will no longer be set at $99.99 as it was before, but will instead be set to $12.98 since that is the highest price that still falls within two standard deviations of the total price pool.

Too much math for you?

No worries!  All you have to know is that from now on, listings for cards that are radically higher than all the other listings for a card will now be ignored for determining a card’s highest price.

More Shadow Specters TCG Exclusives!

The latest two announcements are huge ones. I think all these shadow specters exclusives will be enough to make noble knights a top tier deck. The new support is very good. Here are the latest:

Ignoble Knight of High Laundsallyn (level 5 dark warrior/synchro 2100/900)

1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner “Noble Knight” monsters

When this card is Synchro Summoned: You can equip 1 “Noble Arms” Equip Spell Card from your Deck to this card. At the end of the Battle Phase, if this card destroyed a monster by battle and sent it to the Graveyard: You can add 1 “Noble Knight” or “Noble Arms” card from your Deck to your hand. You can only control 1 “Ignoble Knight of High Laundsallyn”.

Noble Arms - Excaliburn (equip spell)

Equip only to a “Noble Knight” monster. It cannot be targeted by an opponent’s card effects. During your turn, except the turn this card was sent to the Graveyard: You can banish this card from your Graveyard, then target 1 “Noble Knight” Xyz Monster you control; Special Summon from your Extra Deck, 1 “Noble Knight” Xyz Monster with a different name, by using that target as the Xyz Material. (This Special Summon is treated as an Xyz Summon. Xyz Materials attached to it also become Xyz Materials on the Summoned monster.) You can only use this effect of “Noble Arms - Excaliburn” once per turn.

I think these cards really speak for themselves. With the newly announced Lady of the Lake, Ignoble Knight of High Laundsallyn will be very easy to summon, and you get to choose a noble arm straight from your deck to either boost his attackdestroy a set card, protect him from destruction, or now even protect him from targeting with Excaliburn. Then if he destroys something by battle you can choose another equip spell from your deck and keep making him stronger.

Excaliburn's second effect suggests that we'll be seeing another Noble Knight XYZ monster pretty soon. I think it will probably be rank 5 and very good. In my opinion Noble knights are likely to jump pretty high in the tier list as soon as shadow specters comes out.

More TCG Exclusives!

The next two TCG exclusives are Sinister Yorishiro and Archfiend Giant, both support for the archfiend archetype. Here are the texts:

Sinister Yorishiro (continuous trap):

Each turn, 1 Level 5 or higher Fiend-Type monster you Normal Summon can be Summoned without Tributing. If exactly 1 Normal Summoned/Set Level 5 or higher Fiend-Type monster (and no other cards) would be destroyed, you can send this card to the Graveyard instead.

Archfiend Giant (level 6 dark fiend, 2400/1600):

If this face-up card on the field would be destroyed by a card effect, you can pay 500 Life Points instead. This effect can only be used once while this card is face-up on the field. If this card is destroyed by a card effect and sent to the Graveyard: You can Special Summon 1 “Archfiend” monster from your hand.

Neither of these seem like they’re all that good. I haven’t looked much into the Archfiend archetype so maybe I don’t know what I’m talking about but they both seem like cards that will be left out of any competitive deck. I suppose Archfiend Giant would pair well with Archfiend Commander, but the combo doesn’t seem all that strong. Sinister Yorishiro would help speed a deck that uses these archfiend monsters that require tributes, but I’m more interested in what other fiend-type monsters it gives access to such as The End of Anubis, Vanity’s Fiend, Chaos Hunter, Flame OgreEarthbound Immortal Ccapac Apu, or even Tragoedia.

Nobleswarm Belzebuth!

This crazy dude has been announced for the next set, Legacy of the Valiant. Total meta changer. If you haven’t already heard of him, here’s his text:

2 Level 4 monsters

During your Main Phase or your opponent’s Battle Phase, if your opponent’s cards in the hand and on the field outnumber yours: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; destroy all other cards on the field. If you activate this effect, your opponent takes no damage for the rest of this turn.

So he basically reverses card advantage and can be activated during your opponent’s battle phases. I don’t think a card like this has ever really been printed, and if he doesn’t just get banned, this type of card effect might be Konami’s way of slowing the game down, or giving underdog decks a chance. It’s interesting, and I’m pretty sure I don’t dislike it. But then again, I haven’t seen him in action quite yet. I guess we’ll have to find out.

On a side note, Shadow Specters card prices are already up! No sneak peak price confusion today!

Plant Xyz Synchro!

So with the release of Crane Crane and Fortune Tune, and the upcoming release of new synchros, namely Balmung, Knight of the Evil World and Psychiconductor Behemoth, and the new earth/plant xyz Melia the Ashwood Nymph, I built a new sort of rank 3 xyz/plant synchro deck. Or at least as close to a plant synchro deck i could get lol. If only Glow-Up Bulb would come back.

Anyway, the star players here are Crane Crane  Dandylion, Genex Ally Birdman, and Debris DragonCrane Crane can special summon Dandylion from the graveyard, and then when you xyz with the two, Dandylion generates tokens upon being detached. Then, if you have a Birdman in hand, you can bounce the Crane Crane back and repeat. Plus Birdman doesn’t get banished if he becomes XYZ material, and Crane Crane doesn’t keep the monster he summons from being used as synchro material like Tour Guide does. Debris Dragon has tons of non-tuner targets, which is why he works so well. He can special summon DandylionCrane Crane, Night Assailant, Lonefire Blossom, and Maxx “C.” Then, obviously, spore is a great card, and he (or Dandylion) can be sent to the graveyard by Melia to get the deck running.

Problems with the deck include limited extra deck space, and it gets hit really hard by hand traps. Obviously my build isn’t perfect. it probably doesn’t need Upstart Goblins and might be better off with some traps instead (but its nice not having a lot of back row so you can Black Rose). Then the Trags and DAD (Birdman stays in grave a lot of the time) are pretty optional, but i like them.

You should try the deck and make a better build than mine. Let’s bring synchros back! :D
