Day 4: Miracle Back in october of last year I got bronchitis and ended up fracturing my rib from coughing. For weeks it hurt just to lay down no my back or sit up straight. Though I was in a lot of pain, I continued with my as much as I could doing only what my body could take. The worst was it felt better to slouch and I couldn’t do any backbends. Everyday I would slightly bend my back to stretch the front of my body and I believe this helped with the healing process. I’m thankful I’m still able to practice!

Morning Ashtanga Mysore class with Arne

Probably this is the deepest backbend I did for an assisted dropback with a teacher to date.

Whenever we practice in a Mysore room or a Shala and we are in a point in our practice that we do dropbacks and standups for awhile, then the teacher will drop us back and stand us up three times or more and then s/he will assist us in whatever expression of reaching the ankles (Tiriang Mukhatonasa or Chakra Bandhasana or whatever you call it! I’m not good with the nomenclature of the asanas! Hahaha!) our body is capable of doing on that particular day. After the whole thing, we all come back up totally winded or in my case perhaps? Haha! And then we surrender into Paschimottanasana with the teacher somewhat squishing you or giving a gentle massage on our lower back.

I came across this posture last year when Arne assisted me on my dropbacks for the first time. I remember him telling me to walk my hands towards my heels and fear suddenly jolted my body! 😂😂😂 due to severe disorientation towards the posture i was grabbing his ankle already and when i came up i slapped him a little because i didn’t know where my hands and arms were going! Hahaha! But this year is different! A lot of things changed and i was surprised with this photo! Hihihi! Forever grateful to my teachers! 😁

Mind blown. 😑

One of my clients this morning expressed how yoga is just like all the stuff he did when he was playing around as a kid. He thought out loud, “Why do we stop doing these fun things the older we get?” I responded, “Because I think we are afraid of falling.”

The older we get the more fearful we become. Fearful of falling, failure, or even dying. I’m not saying that we have to be fearless but maybe we just have to be more willing to fall.

I feel trapped.
Stuck.
Unseen and unheard.
Lost in the mist of a realm full of could-be’s.
Unable to move.
Unable to change.
Because I am stuck in a trap of my own making.
All I have to do is let go and I’ll be able to walk,
But it’s fear that has me holding tighter.
Fear is what tells me that I may not be happy now but things could always get worse.
But hope is a light that flickers in through the cracks in the walls around me and shows me that things can always get better.
It’s a choice we all must make. To stay or to go. To hide or to move. To remain silent or to sing. To be trapped or to be brave.

It’s #MantraMonday and the mantra of the week is Om Namah Shivaya. This mantra is a salutation to Lord Shiva meaning “I bow to Shiva the supreme deity of transformation who represents the truest, highest self.” It can also be translated as “I honor the divinity within myself.” Transformation (especially in the body) is never easy or comfortable. But it is only through transformation that you are able to uncover the true SELF. And realize that you are DIVINE. You are beautiful just as you are.

Chanting this mantra reminds us that we are all made up of divine energy and should damn well act like it!!!
