Week Three

We are a little late this time but the kids have been out of school for 4 out of 5 days this week and our act of kindness target was the lovely police officer who shows up diligently for duty, helping the neighborhood children get to school safely. She stands out there rain or shine, humid hot or icy cold and she does it with grace and a smile upon her face. This morning, we watched her shoveling ice and snow while she waited for children to approach the corner. She has a wonderful camaraderie with both students and parents and we are all very thankful to see her kind, happy face every school day.

Thank you, officer - for all you do to make our neighborhood and this world a better place. Enjoy your coffee, on us!

Our Annual Melee of Kindness may be over, but that doesn’t mean the kindness has to stop!  We’re celebrating kindness all year long with a new #GetKind theme each month.

This month, we’re focusing on community. So we hope you’ll take a day (or a week or every single day) this month to help make your community a brighter place, and that you’ll share your stories with us by tagging #theRandomAct.org and #GetKind on Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

Now, get out there and do some good!

Week Two

"Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds."
- Inscription on the General Post Office in New York City at 8th Avenue and 33rd Street.

From the days of the pony express to the modern delivery truck, mail carriers have always been an under appreciated lot and unfortunately are at risk of becoming an endangered species with new technology and advances in electronic communication. We wanted to show our mailman some love for working so hard for us so we bought him lunch!
It’s a rainy, dreary day today so we hope this kindness will warm up our mailman, from the inside out.

Week One
K-Man and I did our first random act of kindness for 2014 today! We put a quarter in every candy machine at the grocery store. It’s a small start but the family has been recovering from illness and we haven’t had much prep time. Some kid is going to be very thrilled with their sugary windfall though. I’m just hoping that the tooth fairy forgives the irony since we did this RAoK on the way home from the dentist.

2014, we are on our way!!!
