Opening December 6th at Loakal Gallery in Oakland, California is the three person show “Authoring Evolution.” With work by Bay-area artists Xiau-Fong Wee, Robert Bowen and Lauren YS the show will focus on how the three combine nature and machinery into their works.
“he three artists create a tension between the futuristic and the mythological with their otherworldly, figurative work. The human, animal and machine are combined to create hybridized forms that speak of the human condition in today’s increasingly digitized society.”
After seeing a couple of chickens walking on paper at a studio in Songzhuang, Beijing, Chinese painter Xiau Hu bought two chickens himself at a market, painted their claws with ink and let them walk on sheets of white paper to make paintings.
After acquiring her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the Academy of Art University, Xiau-Fong continues to live and work in San Francisco. She works in oil and acrylic paints, as well as charcoal, for her three series ‘Concrete,’ ‘Concept,’ and ‘Crinkle,’ respectively.
