Some sound-bites from yesterday that I always want to remember:

“Good friends are like stars. You don’t always see them, but you know they are always there.” - an Old Saying

“Let’s go” - Me & Ama said to each other (heh)

“We’re walking at the exact same pace you know, even the stomping when we go up the stairs!” - Rae (to me)

“Rae you looked nice in all your Bhutan photos” - Naz

Rae imitating Aeron.

Rae imitating Kuan.

“You bring out the worst in me…but also the best in me” - Ama to Naz
“Wait, I said that?!” - Ama
“Haha you never remember it when you say something nice!!” - Me

“I fell asleep and woke up with the phone in my hand!!! I was like shit!!!” - Naz
“Look at that dedication” - Rae

“You’re so getting married before me” - Naz
“I’m not?!” - Ama

“YAY TODAY WAS SUCH A GOOD DAY” - me to htsily & weshouldnothate & rae ^^

Love, Xiaoyun

Today in school

Jeremy on his views of religion: “I am not biased. I am correct”

Me: “Tell us, Chin Wee, did you ever google how to kiss a girl?”
Chin: *disappears under table very slowly*

Chin: step 2, after ‘brush your teeth’ is ‘create a romantic atmosphere’
Rachelle: that’s where we come in!

Mrs C: “Chin Wee is meticulous”
Gaius: “Yes, he does his research

Weisheng about the supreme beauty of math: “Do you know what this means? You don’t understand the significance of this! It’s like you went to the MOON and found a rock there that was the exact same as the one you will find in your backyard! It’s like you went to the MAYAN civilisation and sees there, on a stone tablet, the entire history of WESTERN civilisation inscribed there on a tablet!”

Weisheng: “Then we have to go into why Mathematics is not beautiful la. Which I think is bullshit because Mathematics ISSSSSS beautiful”
1B: “okay… guess you’re moving into the C grade…”
Weisheng: “And then we move back into HOW Mathematics is the EXPLANATION for the universe. It is the fundamental truth of our world!!”

Yet another cycling adventure! :)

Places we visited along the ‘Western Adventure Loop’ - Choa Chu Kang Park (starting point), Bukit Batok Town Park (Little Guilin) and Bukit Batok Nature Park.

An effort that took almost 3 hours, but this just proves how unfit we are :( It was still an exhilarating workout, even if it was absolutely strenuous!

More photos if we go for other adventures, yay :)

My Questions

1. What is your favourite book?

As of now, it’s this collection of featured stories about the lives of youths in Southeast Asia called, “Changing Phases - Growing up in Modern Southeast Asia” because it’s basically a mish-mash of all my interests placed together: SEA, History, Human Geography, CUTE KIDS (ahhh the photos) and all that social/cultural jazz like that. :)

pdf version here :D

“Don’t look down on children. One day children will grow up. Only the good children will be good adults. Good adults can change the world.” - An old Burmese saying

2. If you could be in a relationship with someone for just one week, who would it be? ;D

This is not a relationship it’s a fling! HAHA um I’d really wanna be with Fernando Torres I think. He’d be such a sweet boyfriend, one-week-stand nonetheless. :)

3. What is something that you miss?

I’m missing loads of events/time periods. I miss my London Trip 2011, my Osaka Trip 2012, GALES 2 weeks back…but mostly nowadays I just really miss those memories with J. They were good times, but if I have to let him go, so be it.

4. If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, would it be plain rice, fried chicken wings or chocolate mud cake ?

Plain Rice. Sorry I’m boring and practical like that. I mean it sustains you fairly well/better than the other 2!

5. In 5 years’ time what do you hope to have achieved?

In 5 years I’ll be 22. FREAKING 22. omg i can’t even

Straight As (or close) for A-levels
Admission into a fairly prestigious university local/overseas
A good boyfriend :) :) :)
Travelled once on my own! HEHE this shall be cool

6. What is your favourite song? Does it hold any special significance for you?

Umm I have many favourite songs I don’t know which to choose HAHA.

Okay, Home by Gabrielle Aplin, because the lyrics are really meaningful: “Cos they say Home is where your heart is set in stone, it’s where you go when you’re alone, it’s where you go to rest your bones. It’s not just where you lay your head, it’s not just where you make your bed, As long as we’re together, does it matter where we go?

Rachel also once sang it informally to dedicate it to J and me, and I thought that was so sweet of her :)

7. What is one feature of your body that you are happy about?

I quite like my hair, especially on good days. :)

8. Would you rather not be able to distinguish babies from muffins (and risk eating them accidentally) or change genders every time you sneeze?

WAH. The latter; I don’t wanna eat babies please :(

9. If given a chance, what language would you like to learn?

Ohhh cool. I don’t know actually!!! Probably Spanish cos I like how it sounds!

10. A favourite childhood memory?

I CAN’T THINK OF ONE. / Hahha the days when I used to own thousands of longggg nightgowns with prints like Disney Princess or Winnie the Pooh. Nowadays when I look at photos I’m like what am I doing with my life!? Hehe oh well :)

11. Do you see yourself as a strong, independent woman who don’t need no man? How will your dream date be like?

Aye I need my man. Dream date is him cooking for me :D Cos it actually happened, and dinner went superbly well. Haha, good times. :)

Your Questions

Just take Emily’s questions and do them! I have no good ideas/I’m lazy xD

As the year 2013 ends, I’ll also stop posting on Tumblr. It’s been a good run… I’ve laughed, cried, been inspired, and loved here. But 2014 is a big year for me, and I probably cannot afford more distractions than I already have. I’ll be back in November, but that’ll be almost a year later.

(Posting this early so my active followers will know. I’ll let this be my top-most post when I reblog it on 31 December.)

It’s 10 more days before we end 2013 :) LET’S HAVE A BLAST :D :D :D

Beauty is relative to the things we don’t already own.

When in Bhutan, one of my friends told the students at the middle school how much we loved their natural scenery - the mountains, the rapid streams, the tall trees, the acres and acres of farmland…

They looked at her and said, “But I don’t think they are that wonderful.” Their reply took us aback.

Then, we showed them photos of Singapore - the city lights, the skyline of Marina Bay area, the HDBs, the shopping centres…

All of them crowded round to catch glimpses of pictures from our iPhones. There were “oooh”s and “aaah”s. They were awed and they called Singapore beautiful.

Beauty is relative to the things we don’t already own.

After you left i
sit on the chair you sat
use the towel you used
sleep over the spot you slept
hug the pillow you hugged

seconds, minutes, hours, days pass

the chairs look the same
the towel has to be washed
the indents in bed have been smoothed
and the pillow no longer smells like you

‘Moving on, moving on’ my head tells my heart
but today on the train i felt my heart throbbing,
pushing hard against my chest,
as if seeking an escape.
Maybe it felt the distance between us getting wider
maybe it knew where it belonged
if it could
it would have caught the next train back

back to you
