I was wondering if you by any chance have a photographic case study of sorts for the rehabilitation of a 'typical TB hoof'? I'm talking severely overlaid bar resulting in flaring out quarters, likely separated whiteline, basically just lacking concavity and pancaking out. If you do happen to have something like that and are okay with sharing it, I would very much be interested in seeing it!
I don’t have a lot of case studies as I only recently started taking regular photographs (smartphones with good cameras!). The best I have is this, which isn’t much but might help:
TB feet are, as you know, very dependent upon their environment. TBs aren’t born with bad feet, just feet that cannot tolerate unnatural living conditions (stalls, mud, shoes, etc.).They fall apart very quickly if they are not stimulated, trimmed, and housed properly. They are therefore very honest feet. I can tell whether someone is keeping the horse well or not, whether they are keeping up with daily care or not, feeding appropriately or not. This horse, couldn’t even keep a shoe on in the beginning and was lame when he did manage to (you know it’s bad when a shoe can’t even hide the lameness!). He had bar to the apex, thrush and super flat soles. It’s been a long road to where he is now, and honestly he’s going to plateau about here because of his environment and how often he can be trimmed. Ideally i want a stronger heel, but that would require almost weekly maintenance, which is not possible in this case. But he is sound, barefoot, and ridden lightly for pleasure.
“It’s like a shattered glass,
before the cracks finally loose footing with others.
It gives for a moment a deceptive appearance of “glue” holding one end together.
But over a slight wind, bit of pressure. It cracks.
I wonder if man ever wrestles with the undeniable patterns they find in themselves”.
