Into the Depths Part 1 Summary
  • A group of the Queen’s champions, led by Sir Gorni Odek, agreed to accompany Ironforge’s Dark Iron expedition to Whitereach. When they were nearly at the port of Daggerspoint, Theldin Shadowseer summoned them to the deck to discuss strategy.
  • While Mystana insisted that they did not anyone’s permission to reunite with their lost kin, Emmalyne and Morgaine suggested speaking to Viscount Hargrave before seeking out the ways below the mountain could prevent another fiasco like Stranglehold, and the group agreed overall.
  • Thus, the party set out first to Highhold, where they met with Viscount Harold Hargrave, who initially met Lady Morgaine with fury and accusations due to recent Dark Iron attempts on his life.
  • However, with Lady Thaurissan’s placating tone and the group’s meditation, Hargrave calmed. Morgaine explained the Ironforge’s emissaries’ purpose, and the viscount grew pale. Haunted, Harold explained that during the War of the Three Hammers in Whitereach, his father, Robert the Trustworthy, sealed the Dark Iron ‘king’ Fenranis Dagranissian and his clan into their caves beneath the mountain, because Fenranis would not yield. The Dagranissian clan has been trapped in the darkness below for over two hundred years. They have occasionally dug new tunnels and tried to launch forays outward, but have always been defeated. These attempts ended fifty years ago, however.
  • The Dark Irons Morgaine and Balethar were shocked at the revelations, and even some of the champions from Blackmarsh were shaken. Balethar suggested Hargrave deserved his assassins, but Morgaine kept her decorum and calmed him down. She went with some of Harold’s men to see the gate to the sealed tunnels, and told Gorni to meet with one of Mystana’s soldiers in the city.
  • With Sir Thomas joining up, they did, and their guide took them to a cave—the same one that Wallore sent explorers into just a few months earlier. There were bodies of Dark Irons strewn about outside, many burned. Proceeding inside, they found Mystana studying an enormous demonic murder statue.
  • Not bothering to question the short-tempered priestess about the fight outside, they proceeded to pick a fight with the murder statue to protect future baby wolves. They prevailed and passed it, to a circle of mystic dwarven runes that Mystana identified as capable of opening the seal. When she produced the amulet, however, the three other murder statues began to approach her, and even Mystana hastily retreated.
  • Sister Annette concocted a plan to fish the amulet around at the end of her staff and provoke the murder statues into fighting each other, but everyone else decided that was insane, and headed off to search elsewhere. They found an old skull altar, engraved with dwarven runes stating: "The loyal servant shows its worth with gifts of blood and toil."
  • As the group was trying to puzzle this out, however, they began to hear strange whispers. Fortunately, Wallore was on his guard, and spotted something moving in the eye of the giant skull altar, giving the party just enough warning to prepare themselves as tentacles burst from the altar and the dead dwarves around them, and a Faceless One phased in behind Emmalyne. DUN DUNNN.
