A girl at work asked me if I ever heard if black vinyl is actually better than a picture disc. I said, that’s supposed to be the case, it will wear out faster and wouldn’t last as long, but really, how much longer are you planning on living?
So she bought the picture disc :)

Liverpool record shop the music consortium selling 15,000 vinyl records on ebay

30 Jan 2014 11:54

Iconic former Bold Street shop previously known as Hairy Records starting bids at £1,500

Liverpool’s iconic record shop The Vinyl Emporium, formerly Hairy Records, on Bold Street is selling its stock on ebay.

An estimated 15,000 vinyl records have been hosted on the popular online auction site with a starting bid of £1,500 having already been made.

Owners are hoping to sell the entire collection, which includes everything from rock, pop to vintage soul, for £5000.

The Vinyl Emporium closed in March 2013 after what the owners described as “circumstances concerning the property beyond our control”.

It leaves Probe Records, based on School Lane, and 3b Records on Slater Street as Liverpool’s only surviving independent record shops.

Fans of the independent record shop, Hairy Records, included The Zutons’ Dave McCabe, Noel Gallagher and a cast of Merseyside musicians who regularly made the trip to Bold Street.

Even Hollywood director Quentin Tarantino, who visited the city to promote his film Death Proof in 2007, said: “I found this great little record shop in Liverpool, Hairy Records.

“There’s one record I’ve been hunting for worldwide for years, and they had it. I was on fire.”

Hairy Records was taken over by Spike Beecham when the previous owner died. But the shop closed saying on the official Facebook site, “As many of you are aware, Hairy Records was a haven for vinyl junkies in Liverpool and all around the world.

"We at The Vinyl Emporium were happy to keep that tradition going and loved every minute that we did just that. However, the truth is even though we were doing alright financially, circumstances concerning the property were beyond our control.

"This meant that we had to make the difficult decision of quitting whilst we were ahead."

It continued: “The closing of any independent store is a sad day and a reminder of just how important it is to keep supporting them. When you believe the records on your shelves have their own unique tale to tell – not just about the music contained on it but the story of how it got there in the first place – then hopefully you will understand what an honour it has been to take on the legacy of one of the oldest record stores in the country.

"We haven’t made a final decision on what we will do over the coming months, but when we do we will let you know.”

Did we mention how honored and grateful we are to have support from @discogs @insound_ @vinyloftheday and @permanentrecords. It started with a simple mission - Vinyl Appreciation, but it has transformed into a project that focuses on the individuals and the story they share behind their chosen records. Each unique, special and persinalized. It has been #inspirational so far and we thank all our participants. Make sure we give the same love to these awesome brands that took a chance with a small clothing label in #jersey to help spread awareness and support. - #thankyou
