Vegan MoFo Post #9. 9/14/14. PORTLAND/ SEATTLE Vegan fun!
Surprise and spontaneous road trip to Portland, Oregon!!! OMG. So exciting. I’ve ALWAYS wanted to visit Portland because it is basically, veganland. I had no idea it was 3 hours from Seattle & I would get the chance to go so soon!!! Only went for a day trip, but oh how I would love to spend a few days trying all the vegan food there is to offer. Just reading the lists on websites makes me wanna stay and eat everything.
I went to Mississippi Market where there are supposed to be 3 vegan food trucks— Native Bowl, Homegrown Smoker and Ruby Dragon. I only saw the first 2 although I was really looking forward to the apparent Quinoa Pancakes that Ruby Dragon serves. Although I just read some blog comments that it may be closed now )):
Adorable little hang out
I tried the Williams Bowl from Native Bowl which has a base of jasmine rice, homemade vegan chili, fritos, and chipotle sauce. What a whole lot of food from $8!! I could barely finish it. The chili was kind of spicy. The fritos added a nice crunch. I wish I could have tried them all!!
Then I looked next door at Homegrown Smoker’s special— Vegg A Muffin. Umm, WOW. Could not resist getting that to go. It was seriously, amazing. It blew my mind. One of the best vegan sandwiches I’ve ever had. I love breakfast sandwiches. Please make this part of your regular menu!
Are you drooling??
Then we went to the ever famous Voodoo Doughnut for dessert. They have a generous selection of vegan doughnuts thankfully, so I got 3. That was already considered self control. I really wanted to get 5 or 6 haha. My conclusion is that these DO live up to the hype— they were simply amazing. The flavors were good but the texture was just insanely good. Best vegan donuts, hands down. And it does not have that “deep fried food” after taste, I personally feel, that some donuts impart. At least the vegan ones I’ve tried.
Long line! But the wait was not too bad
A whole carousel of vegan options! Definitely can’t complain
YES. Good things do indeed come in PINK boxes!
Gorgeous. I got a the chic-o-stick / butterfinger , old dirty bastard and sprinkles flavors!
Here are close ups :D
Old Dirty Bastard— yeast raised doughnut with oreos, chocolate and peanut butter drizzles
Chic-o-stick/ butterfinger flavor on chocolate cake donut. The cake donut is denser, but still super soft and has a nice bite to it!
Sprinkles donut— vanilla frosting and sprinkles on plain cake donut
Dinner was simple. Vegetable Tofu Soon Do Bu at Seoul Tofu House in Chinatown
Good old Asian food (:
