The brilliant, beautiful singer, dancer and actress Josephine Premice (1926-2001) with her daughter, Susan Fales-Hill and son Enrico Fales in the early 1960s. A two-time Tony Award nominee (“Jamaica”, 1958 and “A Hand is on the Gate”, 1967) Ms. Premice studied dance with Martha Graham and Katherine Dunham. She also made television appearances later in her career on “The Jeffersons,” “The Cosby Show,” and “A Different World,” where her daughter was a writer and producer for many years. I can not recommend Ms. Fales-Hill’s memoir about her mother, “Always Wear Joy,” highly enough. Photo: G. Marshall Wilson
