Varnitsa / Nistru / Dniester (c. Filip Berte)

Varnitsa is a small border-village situated alongside the river Nistru (Dniester in Russian). The Dniester is separating the de-facto republic of Transnistria from Moldova. This small area on the west bank of the river Dniester used to be part of the Moldovan SSR 5oviet Socialist Republic . After the Republic of Moldova declared its independence in 1991, the part on the west-bank refused to participate and declared itself the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic of Transnistria.
