So, I just got back from a girl’s weekend getaway at Mountain Lake Lodge, the site where most of the on-location filming took place for Dirty Dancing. Scenes filmed at the Mountain Lake Lodge helped create the fictional “Kellerman’s Resort” in the movie. Every year the lodge has Dirty Dancing-themed weekends, and it is a lot of fun. On the first night, they show the movie and as I already knew, the movie’s first scene features “Big Girls Don’t Cry.” I was in third grade when Dirty Dancing came out, and I got the soundtrack as soon as I could get my parents to buy me the cassette tape. I was so in love with everything about this movie that I made sure to review all the artists listed on the tape. I clearly remember reading on the back: “Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons” being credited for this wonderful, super fun song. This was my first exposure to the music of The Four Seasons and Frankie’s unique voice. I didn’t watch Grease until a couple of years later, so for me, Dirty Dancing was my first memory of their music, which is obviously timeless. I attached a video that I took on my cell phone (sorry for poor quality of video) of the opening scene so you can see how The Four Seasons kick off the Dirty Dancing movie with gusto! Thanks to johnlloydyoungfriends for bringing this music back to me and doing it such justice.
