Sanrion Appreciation Week- Day Three: Colour
Red and gold – the Lannister colors. Everywhere Tyrion looked he saw them. In his house sigil, of course. That proud, golden lion on its blood red field had been taunting him since childhood. Then there were the tapestries, the linens, and the upholstery. Not to mention all of his clothes.
Still, Tyrion wore those colors, loving them and hating them at the same time. Because he was a Lannister.
He never told anyone he preferred blue. There was nothing proud or harsh about blue. Blue was everything gentle and serene. The waves that crashed over the bluffs of Casterly Rock were blue… blue was the afternoon sky spotted with clouds. Blue was like the forget-me-nots he heard the servants say had been his mother’s favorite. They were forbidden in the house, but as a child he would pick them secretly and hide them under his pillow, letting their sweet scent lull him into a comforting sleep.
So years later, Tyrion was happy that it was blue that met him when he gazed into his wife’s eyes. And in the mornings, when her lustrous red hair would fall across his pillow and glisten gold in the light, Tyrion thought maybe his house colors weren’t so bad after all.
