On The Spotlight: Cries Wolf

By: Triana

Author’s Note: I recently had the pleasure of interviewing a new band I stumbled across named Cries Wolf. Their music really interested me, so I decided to ask them a few questions. I hope you all check out their newest EP called ‘Space and Time’ here. I love all of their work so far and can’t wait to hear more!

How did you come up with the name, “Cries Wolf”?

For some strange reason, we loved the idea of having an animal in the name. We looked into ‘Boy Cried Wolf’, or ‘Wolf Club’, but we felt that Cries Wolf had a bit of an extra buzz to it. It took us ages though. Our old mate had his loft converted into a massive bedroom, and we were all just sat there holding our instruments not even playing for hours, just to come up with a bloody name because we had been putting it off for weeks. People always seem intrigued by it, so that tells us we made the right decision!

Under what genre would you classify the music you create?

We like to think of us having our own sound that doesn’t fit into one specific genre (we know that’s cliché, but we honestly can’t put a name on it, Trust us we’ve tried!). There’s obviously the acoustic folk factor, but adding synth and the electric riffs on top of that helps us create a bit of a unique sound.

Who are your favorite bands, or bands that inspire you?

We all get so inspired by other musicians, especially when we’ve seen them live and get a taste of what it’s like to perform in front of a crowd. We recently saw Ben Howard and Bombay Bicycle Club in the space of a week which blew us away. When you see your heroes up on stage it really inspires you to one day be where they’re standing. We’ve got tickets to see Knuckle Puck and American Football over the coming weeks as well in which we’re all buzzing about.

Where is the band hoping to be in the future, say 10 years from now?

It’s so difficult to imagine where we’ll be in 10 years’ time. But to hopefully be creating the music and artwork that we love to a greater scale would be amazing. The thought of this band from starting in our bedroom writing songs with our mates to then playing them in front of thousands of people is incredible.

When will we be seeing new music from the band?

Right now! We’ve just released our debut EP ‘Space & Time’ (Produced by Ben Sansom of Lower Than Atlantis). You can grab the EP at www.crieswolf.co.uk or on Spotify. It’s been a lot of hard work writing it and getting it ready, but we’re all so proud of it and are already writing new stuff ready to record back in the studio.
