Post 9: Trinniberg Trainer: Bisnath Parboo Jockey: Willie Martinez Current Odds 50-1, Record 7: 3-2-0, Style: Pace.
Analysis: The best sprinter/miler of his year, this horse is pure speed. I wish the owners had stayed with their original plan of gradually increasing distance for the Preakness, but an intense case of Derby Fever got the best of them. He will likely set off blazing fractions, and will be burnt out by the time they find the far turn. His owner and trainer think he is fit enough to hold his speed the whole way, and maybe they know something the rest of the world doesn’t. However, no Derby winner has ever prepped only in races less than 1 mile.
The butt of many distance-related jokes in last year’s Kentucky Derby (I), Trinniberg returned to Churchill Downs with his proud pom-pom intact, thanks in part to an Eclipse award and Breeders’ Cup Sprint (I) win. (Photo by Claire Novak)
