Lots-o’-Huggin bear from Toy Story 3 was originally meant to appear in the first film but the technology needed to animate his fur did not yet exist. This is what the animation team could create at the time:

Lotso was originally going to be in the first film, but the technology to make the fur right had yet to exist for the first and second films, so he was saved for the third film. An early version of Lotso can be seen in the first film when Woody says, “Everybody hear me? Up on the shelf, can you hear me? Great!”.
