Land of Abandoned Children?

Journal,

I have wandered far to end up here in Thunder Guard. This village is small, yet they are many. So many children yet few adults, and even few women still. Is this the place lost children go? Were they all abandoned here, as Kodite was abandoned? How they ended up here, just as how I ended up here matters not. All that matters now is that I am here and I shall take care of them as my own. I have my brother, Kodite, not even human by nature but my brother none the less. Then there is Xyston, the young French noble seeking a life away from the French court, or so he says. Next is Cicero, the boy is a bit insane, his past is rife with things I do not understand and he will not talk about. Lastly Spatter M. Clockwork, another monsters among men, he calls himself a mech goblin and speaks in the tongue of monsters, and when I can understand him I learn nothing of him.  These are the parentless children of Thunder Guard, all whom I have taken into my care. There are also Harmony a young lady assumedly of Japanese decent, who calls herself a niko, whatever that means; she appears and acts mostly human and Mitz her brother, he calls himself a deity, we are not sure exactly what he is god over. Harmony and Mitz are the only two older children who have a parent in Thunder Guard. Their mother is Hematite. Then there is Bishop. He is the War Baby of Thunder Guard. His father is Tyrimas Illano, Master WeaponSmith and Quartermaster of Thunder Guard.  What is this place I now call home, is it truly the land of abandoned children?

Kodite is a what...

Journal,

Kodite is nearly 17 now; last year around the time of the Autumn Equinox we met a goblyn. Her name is Salamander. I had met Salamander before this but Kodite had not been with me then.  Salamander presented Kodite with what she called a “shinny”. His eyes lit up and I could see something within him clicked. I did not understand it at all, and I doubt I ever will. The dwarf called Ironside, whom we had met before in our homeland, saw the exchange. He came to us where we had gathered with the Northern Alliance at OcktoberFest later that evening. Kodite was wearing the trinket he had been given smiling happily. Ironside sat down beside me, running his hands over his beard; the hints of ginger in his beard catching the fire light, he turned looked at me and softly spoke “He’ll cherish that.” He indicated the trinket, “Kobalds, like other monsters, have an affinity for things that gleam.” I looked at him and blinked. He did not just tell me my baby brother, the most important thing in the world to me was a monster; it was not possible. I blinked again, and he smiled sadly. I remembered back to the day I met Ironside for the first time. The day I stopped him from killing my little brother, he knew then. My friend, a man I deeply trust and care for had just told me my brother was a monster. A monster, my brother was a monster.  I asked him, “When you fixed our roof, you knew then, that was why you were trying to kill him then wasn’t it?” He nodded. He could see I needed space and time to process, so went about speaking with Chiron the Bearshirt about acquiring a new pipe, giving me the space I needed. Ironside called Kodite a kobold, which I later found out is a lizard looking being. How had I not seen this? Who am I trying to lie to, I saw the signs throughout my life, and I just choose to ignore them. This explains the orange skin, the scale like patches of skin, and the strange language he had when he came to us. I was 23 when I found out my brother was a monster.  I descried that night, this changed nothing, he is still my brother, I raised him. I shall love him none the less no matter if he is monster born or human born.
