Ciudad Prehispanica de Uxmal Located in the Yucatan, the Mayan city of Uxmal was founded around the year 700 and once numbered about 25,000 inhabitants. The layout of the buildings, built between 700 and 1000, shows knowledge of astronomy of the Maya. The building baptized by the Spanish under the name Pyramid of the Magician dominates the ceremonial center, which comprises of impeccable design monuments richly ornamented with symbolic motifs and carved effigies of Chac, the rain god.
