It’s incredibly difficult for me to find photographs of the fathers with their families, but I still wanted to honor them in some small way.
Ed White, Gus Grissom, Roger Chaffee, Ellison Onizuka, Dick Scobee, Mike Smith, Ron McNair, Rick Husband, Willie McCool, Michael Anderson, and Ilan Ramon were all wonderful fathers who were just as — if not more than — devoted to their families as they were to the exploration of the universe. They gave their lives because they believed that the cosmos held keys and solutions to making the world we live in a better place — a better place for their wives and for their children, and for their grandchildren and future generations.
Remember their families, and especially their children, today. While some of those children are now grown adults, and it’s been many, many years since their fathers’ deaths, their absence is still very real.
May they all rest in peace.
