Atlanta Hip-Hop Is More Than Skinny Jeans & Dancing

Throughout the years, Atlanta has been known for many things when it comes to hip-hop. As of lately people equate the city with trap drums, skinny jeans and dancing. Well today’s guest on The Str8OutDaDen Podcast is hear to set the record straight and let people know that its way more to the city.

Lazies meet @dagreatcoop. He is from the south side of the city and one of the members of The Winning Team. As he preps his #GoodDayATLanta album, he sat down in Da Den to talk the Atlanta hip-hop scene, how taking a break from rap help change his perspective, how that break almost turned into him joining the U.S. military full time and more.

We also got a chance to hear a few joints from his upcoming LP and of course it would not be a Str8OutDaDen Podcast without our #VinylConversations segment, which Coop bodies by the way. So you know the drill…sit back…Relax and Listen! Link in bio. #podcast #hiphopcommunity #hiphop #atlanta

This week we go in a different direction for the Str8OutDaDen Podcast, as we give the underground emcees a break to talk to the man behind the scenes. Lazies meet Kato. The SMKA/Funk Volume producer sat down with us for a dope convo about his journey from Virginia to Atlanta. We also went into great detail about the gifts and curses of the music industry, along with being Asian in hip-hop. While giving us the origin of his name, Kato also spoke on his relationship with XXL Freshman Jarren Benton (remember that time when he jumped into the crowd during A3C?) and signing to Funk Volume. Very dope conversation indeed. We even did #VinylConversations sans a freestyle, but who knows maybe we will get a chance to hear what he creates from the vinyl we gave him. So you know the drill…sit back…Relax and Listen!

Back when we started this podcast; one of the first people I sat with was Abib Jahleel and TRUTH of The Winning Team. During that time Coop had just dropped a dope project by the name of PimpTightPlaya and shortly after was in the military. He missed that first convo, but luckily for us all he was in attendance along with Abib and TRUTH for our latest podcast. The Winning Team spoke on how they crew came to fruition, gave us some insight on their upcoming album The Losers Win Again and broke down how they are becoming a one stop shop indy label. Oh and we couldn’t forget about the bars. Listen as the whole crew goes in over the classic MC Lyte "Brooklyn” instrumental.“ - J. Good

By now you should have heard this name mentioned quite a few times lately on Da Den. Trust me its for good reason. Our latest guest on the podcast, first made his way on Da Den back in March with a record entitled “Coolest“. Lazies meet Zulu FaZ. Now residing in Atlanta, the Zimbabwe born emcee shares his story with us. We got very specific in his journey to music, that included stepping out on faith and moving to the city. We also spoke on his transition from producing to rhyming and the importance of connecting with the people through live shows. Definitely worth ALL 80 minutes. Oh and how could I forget that the homie freestyles over classic instrumentals from Keith Science. So you know the drill…sit back…Relax and Listen!

For our latest podcast we traveled far away from Da Den. Instead we took the show on the road literally; recording from the comfort of my car. Our guest fit the mold perfectly for our unconventional recording method for this interview. Lazies meet Chiiirp. The Detroit native now residing in Atlanta, met me in Little 5 Points to talk about everything from art, music, life and the meaning of those “iii” in her name. We started off the podcast reminiscing on how I first came to learn about who she was and from there on, things feel in place. We even got into a new segment called “Art Speak”, as tried my best to interpret Chiiirp’s paintings she brought along. Very dope episode to say the least and we capped it all off with her freestyling to some of my beats right off the laptop. So hey you know the drill…sit back…Relax and Listen!

Since the release of his Monk EP back in September, Gone Wallace has been hard at work on the follow up. Even though the first installment was only 3 tracks, he managed to feed our appetite for good hip-hop. Fast forward four months and the Philly native doubles the ante (literally) with Monk’s Too. Coming in at 6 tracks, Wallace goes in a completely different direction than the previous project. However he manages to keep the storyline going, giving us a more detail breakdown what the “diner life” is about. The features are kept to a minimum here with Joey Mac chiming in on “Diner Life”. As far as production goes, we have MUNOZ, Randy Savage, The Ashez, Blunted Beats, Aye-KO, ICDMAW & Omerta Hitz to thank.

We have been on a roll lately with our Str8OutDaDen Podcast. For our latest episode we sat down with a personal and close friend of mine. Me and this guy go way back to being roommates during our college days at Georgia State. Lazies meet Grammy nominated producer Ace Harris. It was a bit different interviewing a personal friend, but we managed to get through it with a lot of history behind how he got his start and where he is now. We also talked being nominated for a Grammy, working with King Ink, Pusha T, No Malice, Lecrae and more. Dope episode to say the least. We even got a short snippet of a record from Justin Paul’s upcoming Crème De La Crack album. So you know the drill…sit back…Relax and Listen!

We have been cranking these podcast out a little more frequently lately and its all because you Lazies ask so nicely (insert sarcasm here). This week we talk with Atlanta emcee J Cutta. Not only did we go over his start in the rap game, we went through some of the history of why I created Str8OutDaDen.com. Overall just a cool convo with a passionate emcee who knows exactly where he wants to be both professionally and lyrically. Oh and yes we did get bars. So you know the drill…sit back…Relax and Listen!
