The sci-fi and fantasy section of Netflix has some interesting stuff. A lot of the Star Trek TOS and TNG movies, for one (the TV series is also on Netflix). And GODZILLA MOVIES! Not that I’m crazy about Godzilla or anything but something in me wants to watch some just out of curiosity. Living in the U.S. (where they’ve only released a couple Godzilla movies that I know of) you kinda forget how ridiculously popular Godzilla is in Japan. The first film came out in the ‘50’s, and they’ve made like 25 since (not counting the films starring related monsters like King Ghidorah). And from what I picked up about it via “The History of Science Fiction” (or whatever that awesome documentary on sci-fi they had on bbcamerica a while back was called), Godzilla is basically a monster created by a normally harmless creature being exposed to radiation. In the '50’s, within living memory of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, you can imagine such things were a real-life worry to the Japanese, much as the idea of the Soviets bombing was a real-life fear in the U.S. at the same time (well, frankly, it was a fear in the West in general - which probably explains why almost all the villains in the early Bond films were Russians).

There’s a lot of other stuff in there - classic films like The War of the Worlds, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and Santa Claus Fights The Martians plus a lot of newer stuff too.

Decided to put up the sale and the other two new items tomorrow. By “decided to” I mean “got distracted by marathoning Star Trek TOS on Netflix and then decided that I was too tired to care about posting the other two new items”.
