It is one of the best phones in its class.

Speaking of class, 90 million smartphone users need an effective way of learning how to use high-tech devices.  Current methods of instruction are ineffective or have just failed.  User manuals or videos have not met requirements for today’s mobile technology. Please support our campaign.

Random Fact #171

Nikola Tesla ROCKS. Seriously, man. This guy was like the da Vinci of his generation (and he had a nice personality to boot!). Yet people kept taking credit for the poor guy’s ideas (or trying to discredit his inventions). All the freakin’ time.

Like, seriously:

  • He invented the alternating current we use to this day. Thomas Edison didn’t like that it was way better than his version of how to conduct electricity (the direct currentwhich Tesla had worked on with him before quitting to develop the a/c curent), so he had his employees travel around and do shows where they’d electrocute stray dogs using an a/c current to “demonstrate” how “dangerous” it could be (and oh-so-coincidentally make people want to forbid the use of the a/c current).
  • He invented the fluorescent bulb… some 45 years before the bulb is said to have been invented by the industry. Does he ever get any credit? Nope.
  • He developed x-ray photography as we know it (as well as its precursor!). Again, credit? As if.
  • He invented the radio years before Marconi. In fact, in 1943 Marconi lost his patent because it was proven Tesla did it first. Again, did the poor geeky genius get any recognition? NO.
  • He invented the freakin’ remote control. In 1898. Like, the kind we use for toy boats and stuff (which was what he used as a demonstration). It may not seem like a big deal now, but that’s because we’ve gotten so used to it.
  • He was the first person to come up with the idea of robots as we know them. He didn’t build them, but our popular view of “we can build things that function pretty much the same as us except they can’t grow or reproduce” came from him. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, ANY CREDIT? None.
  • He developed the idea for the smartphone. THE SMARTPHONE. And the wireless internet. No, really. His idea was to create “a wireless means of instant communication that involved a new means of instant communication that involved gathering stock quotes and telegram messages, funneling them to his laboratory, where he would encode them and assign them each a new frequency. That frequency would be broadcast to a device that would fit in your hand” (explanation taken from here, because I’m too lazy to try to figure out a better way to explain this).
  • Wireless communication in general. That’s right. You owe the basics of your wifi and cellphone and pretty much any other wireless forms of communication to Nikola freakin’ Tesla, because he came up with the basic technology and understanding required for wireless communication. Anyone ever teach you that in school? My guess would be no.
  • The laser. Yeah, that was Tesla. You didn’t know that? What a surprise.
  • Clean, free energy. Because he was genuinely worried about how we are fucking up the planet. So he created a machine that makes lightning and provides clean cheap energy for everyone. But the rich decided that was the last straw (because they couldn’t make any money off of it) and shut his project down. So yeah, we could have free and environmentally friendly renewable energy. The fat cats just don’t want us to. For reals.
  • Some of Tesla’s papers are still kept as classified by the U.S. government. There are still thousands of his ideas we have no access to. So for all we know there’s even more stuff of his that other people are taking credit for.

…I’m such a fangirl.
