Pejac: New Street Pieces - Paris, France on Facebook

Pejac recently spent some time in Paris, France where he worked his way through a couple of new street pieces including the above piece which is entitled “Ants”.

With his minimalist but clear style, he painted 2 silhouettes of kids being cruel with magnifying glass on what looks like colony of ants. But, instead of burning ants which is always an interesting game to play, these kids are burning little humans. The artist used the texture of raw concrete wall, and painted these little men to look as a realistic colony of ants. Juxtaposed with flat silhouettes of children, the tiny creatures shown with their shadows and in perspective, look very fragile and harmless. The Spanish artist also painted two extra pieces including a surrealistic and amazing door.

Check out more photos of the new pieces after the jump and come back soon for more mural updates from Pejac. This piece can be seen in person @ Avenue de 8 Mai 1945, Vitry-sur-Seine, Paris.

Weekend Hashtag Project: #WHPsilhouetted

Weekend Hashtag Project is a series featuring designated themes & hashtags chosen by Instagram’s Community Team. For a chance to be featured on the Instagram blog, follow @instagram and look for a post announcing the weekend’s project every Friday.

Today marks the one year anniversary of Photos of You, the ability to tag people in your photos on Instagram! To celebrate, we’re bringing back one of our favorite Weekend Hashtag Project themes: silhouettes. The goal this weekend is to take creative silhouette photos. Some tips to get you started:

  • Silhouettes are all about light. Make sure your subject is positioned right in front of your light source, whether it be the setting sun, a bright window or a backlit screen.
  • Once you’ve framed your photo, tap the brightest part of your phone’s screen to set your exposure and get the silhouette just right.
  • Finally, don’t forget to tag the people silhouetted in your photo!

PROJECT RULES: Please only add the #WHPsilhouetted hashtag to photos taken over this weekend and only submit your own photographs to the project. Any image taken then tagged over the weekend is eligible to be featured right here Monday morning!

"Everyday Feels Like Sunday"

He stands out in the dark, on the fire escape
The yearning for a cigarette is nipping at his nape
He’s not sure what is wrong, but something isn’t right
It’s just feels like how it always feels every Sunday night.

Tomorrow is always looming, and tomorrow will have brought
Everything he’s been avoiding, to pay for the guilt that he has wrought
The air hangs so heavy; dead and dismal around his head
Sunday can never be enjoyed because tomorrow you’ll be dead.

The emptiness fills his lungs, as he inhales deep
He’s not sure if he should stay awake, or try to get some sleep.
Everyday might feel like Sunday, but he just has to pretend
That tomorrow will be better, and someday Sunday will end.

Artworks Carved From Leaves by Lorenzo Manuel Duran

Combining art and nature, Spanish artist Lorenzo Manuel Duran uses a scalpel to create intricately designed silhouettes from leaves around his home. The very fine details that he has achieved here on the finished pieces are impressive to say the least, with miniscule segments and extremely thin lines crafted by the vital combination of technique and surgical blades.

Du bist wie eine Blume
So hold und schön und rein:
Ich schau’ dich an, und Wehmut
schleicht mir ins Herz hinein.

Thou art so like a flower,
So pure, and fair and kind;
I gaze on thee, and sorrow
Then in my heart I find.

—Heinrich Heine
