The “shmagh” (embroidered headscarf). It began as a handy piece of equipment to protects its wearer from dust, sand, sun, and cold in desert conditions. Later, it became part of the traditional dress that symbolizes the authenticity of Arabs of different origins. Jordanians associate with the red shmagh, Palestinians with the black.
