See More SFIFF: Crystal Fairy and An Oversimplification of Her Beauty

Crystal Fairy
Dir: Sebastián Silva
Narrative Feature
Chile, 2012

Opens July 19 at Opera Cinema Plaza and Shattuck Cinemas.

"Director Sebastián Silva may have crafted a film of out there concepts and ideas, but he certainly knows how to create an environment to get memorable and moving performances out of his actors. Cera is infuriating as Jamie, a boy only focused on himself, but there is a reason the film is titled Crystal Fairy - this is not Jamie’s story, this is a story about a woman and how her complex nature changes those around her."  — Allison Loring, Film School Rejects

An Oersimplification of Her Beauty
Dir: Terence Nance
Narrative Feature
USA, 2011

Opens July 19 at Roxie Theater and Broaklyn Film & Theater Company .

"Oversimplification is both unprecedented and familiar, with antecedents in both mainstream and art cinema. It recalls inventive, formally ingenious films with hapless, self-involved but charming actor-directors like Annie Hall…"  — Ina Diane Archer, Film Comment

New to Watch: Mosquita y Mari

Mosquita y Mari by local filmmaker Aurora Guerrero is now available to watch on DVD - buy it now or queue it on Netflix!  Her feature debut was a 2011 SFFS/KRF Filmmaking Grant winner and had its world premiere at Sundance 2012 and Bay Area premiere at the 55th SF International Film Festival.  En route, Aurora has recently won a second SFFS/KRF Filmmaking grant for screenwriting.  Her new project is titled Los Valientes and follows a gay undocumented Mexican immigrant from San Francisco to a small town in Pennsylvania.  Read a recent interview with Aurora on her new screenplay by SFgate.com.

She’s a progressive gem in the Bay Area filmmaking community - just watch our interview with her from last spring below - and we enthusiastically await her next feature!

Happy Thursday—SFIFF55 hit The Fourth Dimension is now streaming in full! Get motivated!

Chicken with Plums opens in NY today!  This gem won’t be coming to SF/Bay Area until September. Sigh. NY, always ahead with their premieres…unless you saw it at SFIFF55 with Marjane Satrapi in person! Trump this NY:
