I visited Tumblr today and almost cried.
One of the best perks of going to a school in NYC is that I get to take trips of a lifetime. From my first corporate trip to the Toys R Us campus to the Vera Bradley showroom to going to Seattle, Washington to explore Nordstrom, Inc. at the end of the month, I’ve had some incredible memories made all thanks to FIT and its location.
Today, though, a HUGE dream of mine came true: I came to the offices of this exact site that you are currently reading this one. If you saw my Instagram, I went to the Motherland that is Tumblr.
So many emotions filled me when I saw the ’t’ symbol on their office doors and the word embedded into the front desk. I wanted to cry, scream, search for David Karp, and throw my resume down telling them I would be their best hire.
I wanted to tell them how this exact site changed my life five years ago when I was in high school. I practically needed to tell them how I run three accounts, thank them for practically creating the One Direction fandom and their superstardom and making me feel like I actually belonged somewhere. But instead, I had to keep composed as we chatted with Fashion Evangelist, Valentine and my good friend/incredible menswear blogger, Ryan.
We spoke about how to make your Tumblr better, brand partnerships, fandoms, and content. It was incredible that he actually took the time to sit with us students and chat about social media. He also hinted that a “fashion designer who has never been on social media” will be launching a tumblr in two months. Oh, and did you know that celebrities have secret tumblrs? WE KNOW YOU DO, ONE DIRECTION (even though Valentine didn’t hint at it, I’m now convinced).
I’d like to thank Ryan and Valentine for this incredible discussion, even though we were there for only an hour. As a tumblr blogger myself, I think I will now be able to take their advice and put it to the test on here.
Reblog and like on, my friends!
