Robert Hunter Cup

This morning I woke up and checked my twitter feed, only to find it full of tweets from rappers about the Robert Hunter gig last night and the game later today. It’s hard to fully explain how amazing that is. The Australian music scene just isn’t like anything else.

It’s a culture. A community. Where people fight and make up, but still come together for the things that matter. Hunter would have been proud to know what his friends are doing for him - and the CanTeen kids.

It’s hard to imagine something like this happening here in North America. Sure there might be a radio tribute to a late singer or a benefit gig for some global cause but it’s not personal.

The Robert Hunter Cup on the other hand is exactly that. Personal. These men and woman sincerely miss the guy. He was a friend, a mentor, and an inspiration to many. These people are friends, family even, in a sense. They all share something so huge being part of this scene and with this game they are sharing it with the world. Rap and footy might not seem that significant to many people but they know it’s more than that.

I wish I could have been at that gig or see the game later today. I guess I’ll just have to content myself with listening in on the radio. Good luck to all the players today, hope those massive hangovers don’t interfere too much.

Love from Canada.

ps. Go Warriors!!

You went away, how dare you, I miss you… They say I’ll be okay but I’m not going to ever get over you… Rest in peace sweet boy. You’ll forever be my first kiss. #riphunter (Taken with instagram)
