Oligarchy and such

In principle, every American citizen has an equal say in our political process. In practice, of course, some of us are more equal than others. Billionaires can field armies of lobbyists; they can finance think tanks that put the desired spin on policy issues; they can funnel cash to politicians with sympathetic views (as the Koch brothers did in the case of Mr. Walker). On paper, we’re a one-person-one-vote nation; in reality, we’re more than a bit of an oligarchy, in which a handful of wealthy people dominate.

The Official Guide to Legitimate Rape

In 1995, North Carolina state Rep. Henry Aldridge told the House Appropriations Committee that "The facts show that people who are raped — who are truly raped — the juices don’t flow, the body functions don’t work and they don’t get pregnant. Medical authorities agree that this is a rarity, if ever.” Plan B: If your secretions can’t kill evil sperm, you just “dry up” and brush yourself off after you’re done being raped, baby-free. No biggie!

Stop the world, I want to get off.

While watching John Boehner discuss the debt ceiling crisis on Fox News Sunday it became clear that the GOP plan never was cut, cap, and balance, but bitch, bail, and flail. Click thru for video of Boehner on Fox News Sunday:

Republicans Paint Clinton as Old News for 2016 Presidential Election

Mrs. Clinton’s age and appearance, of course, provide an irresistible topic for the conservative media. Matt Drudge, who takes particular delight in tracking Mrs. Clinton’s photographic ups and downs, posted a picture on his Web site this month showing her virtually wrinkle-free under the headline “Fresh-Faced Hillary Glows at Lincoln Center.”

The radio host Rush Limbaugh, echoing his commentary from her first presidential run, asked his audience in April whether the American people “want to vote for somebody, a woman, and actually watch a woman get older before their eyes on a daily basis?”

Republican sauce - weaker than ever.

Rep. Todd Akin tries to defend his indefensible remarks regarding “legitimate rape”.

"In reviewing my off-the-cuff remarks, it’s clear that I misspoke in this interview and it does not reflect the deep empathy I hold for the thousands of women who are raped and abused every year."

When I tell you that the next train leaves at 8:30 when in fact it leaves at 8:15, I “misspoke”.

Seriously, Toddles. STFU and GTFO.
