red-crested cardinal

ok last birdscast doodle for a little bit >u>

Zoey and Rythian as a california quail and a red-crested cardinal!

I picked rythian as a quail for no reason other than the feather sticking over his head to be that cute little alternate-colored fringe we all know and love.

Red-crested cardinal for zoey because they’re spunky and redheaded even when they’re female <3

I wasn’t sure what to make teep though, if he should be a bird or like, some other animal

red crested cardinal

The Red-crested Cardinal (Paroaria coronata) is a bird species in the tanager family (Thraupidae). It was formerly placed in the Emberizidae, and notwithstanding its common name, it is not very closely related to the true cardinals (family Cardinalidae).

It is found in northern ArgentinaBolivia, southern BrazilParaguay and Uruguay. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry shrubland and heavily degraded former forest. Among other regions, it is found in southern part of the Pantanal.

It has also been introduced to Hawaii and Puerto Rico. In Brazil, it has been introduced to various places outside its historical range, as in the Tietê Ecological Park in São Paulo, alongside with its very similar-looking close relative, the Red-cowled Cardinal (P. dominicana).

This drawing is from quite some time ago, I just finally thought of taking a (more or less) good picture of it!
This was the sponsor pin for Eurofurence last year, featuring a red crested cardinal bird. There was a second pin for which I did the design, featuring a palila bird on a coconut cocktail saying ‘thank you, volunteer’. I sadly never got my hands on that pin so I can’t show you a picture of it.

Sorry the pin didn’t photograph that well, it’s pretty small! 2 by 3 centimeters (0.8 by 1.2 inch)
