I think I had a pink mohawk or something and these redneck guys talked shit to me and I gave them the finger, so they beat the hell out of me. After they kicked my ass, I walked home about a block away, seeing stars and all bloody. I walked in the door and my old guitar player, Hillel, was stirring this big pot of lentils. He was this tall, skinny guy, and I walked in and was all beat up, and he was like, ‘What happened?’ and he was holding up his lentil spoon and I said, ‘Oh man, these guys kicked my ass at the Mayfair’ and he was like, ‘Let’s go get them. Come on, let’s go get them.’ And he just looked so skinny and he had the lentils and I was like, ‘Dude, forget it, there’s nothing we can do.’

Red Hot Chili Peppers, Snow ( Hey Oh)  (2006)

—If you happen to have missed it, this is one of RHCP’s most poetic songs.

The video is a touching  tribute to the band’s extended family.

Band Tee Girl #4. Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Formed in Fairfax High School, Los Angeles, Red Hot Chili Peppers originally consisted of classmates singer Anthony Kiedis, guitarist Hillel Slovak, bassist Flea and drummer Jack Irons. Originally going under the band name of Tony Flow and the Majestic Masters of Mayhem, their first performance was at the Rhythm Lounge to a crowd of only around 30 people. At the time, Slovak and Irons were already committed to another group, What Is This?, however, the performance was so lively, that the band was asked to return the following week. Due to this unexpected success, the band changed its name to The Red Hot Chili Peppers, playing several more shows at various LA clubs and musical venues. Six songs from these initial shows were on the bands first demo tape. The obtained a record deal with EMI Records and Enigma Records in November, 1983. On June 25th, 1988, just after the release of their third album, The Uplift Mofo Party Plan, Slovak died of a drug addiction-related death. However, they managed to replace Slovak and Irons and they gained international success by 1990, after the release of their fourth album, Mother’s Milk. This success continued throughout releases of their following albums, Blood Sugar Sex Magik (1991), One Hot Minute (1995), Californication (1999), By The way (2002) and Stadium Arcadium (2006), all of which were highly popular. Their most recent album was I’m With You. It was released in 2011, a whole 24 years after the band’s formation. Their most popular and well-known song is probably Can’t Stop or possibly Californication or Under The Bridge.
