This is all renaroo's fault. Her little fic got me to dig this out: the conclusion to the first meeting of Rocket and Superboy. Superboy, at this time, is a physical 16 year old (but really only 6 months old) wanna-be ladies man an some of the comedy of his series had this blowing up in his face. In this meeting, he hits on her really, really blatantly and obviously. Raquel has none of it, and does this to get him to back off.
It’s the Belly-Button thing that really nails it.
But Kon is legitimately attracted to her, and why not? Smart, willful, driven — what’s not to love?
Unfortunately for him, she doesn’t really go for his really, really lame pickup lines. I mean, really lame ones. And also being a blatant horndog. He needs to grow up quite a bit before trying to woo Raquel again.
Which is why I’m so glad Peter David’s Young Justice gave him. A later Peter David, pre-Johns Kon-El would actually have a chance to woo Raquel.
At least, he could remove the stain of their first meeting from her mind. If only to make it something they could laugh about later.
Plus, showing old school Kon is always fun.
