She’s the other half of the romance and to know her inner-workings is so important. Sometimes Beckett is such a mystery we don’t know why she does some of the things she does. I think the therapist, and hopefully the additional storylines we develop with the other characters, will open up more of the inner workings of her and why she’s made some of the choices she has. I think Beckett is a beautiful character, full of integrity and she’s trying her best.

She’s very good at it. I mean the girl is so solid. She won’t come out of that, she’ll stay there and every time they say, ‘Go’, she’s ready. That’s the thing about Stana that I love. She works hard. And it’s hard to hold that emotion all that time and then go back to your regular life. I’ve had to cry in the car sometimes just to get it out when I’ve had scenes like that. She’s just an amazing actress and an amazing person all the way around. She holds it. She doesn’t let it go until they say we’re moving on to the next scene.”

“Um, I think every role, whether in TV or film, has a part in building a career and relationships. This one (Castle) has created an awareness – no doubt. But, ultimately, they are all part and parcel of telling amazing stories with incredible people, I think I was a smart-ass in the room. They liked that. There was some sweet story behind the audition story. Having travelled for about an hour, I was told: ‘They have a scene for you, go perform it for the camera’. Unfortunately, I came in with a shirt that was almost like a tunic. I thought I would make it work, but it just wouldn’t tuck in. I asked the hairstylist for a pair of scissors, and ran into the lobby. Nathan was grabbing a coffee and I asked him to cut off half the tunic. He said: ‘I can’t promise a straight line, but I can cut it’. The producers came in, saw that, and…”

Stana’s a big discovery. Get used to hearing her name, because she is going become a very big star. I mean, I’ve watched this happen before in any career—when we cast Heath Ledger in ‘The Patriot,’ or putting Will Smith in ‘Independence Day.’ There’s times when actors come into your film, and you just look at the dailies, and you think, ‘Wow. We’re getting to see the early work of someone who’s going to be a very big star and going to be around a long time,’ and Stana’s like that.”

[…] “Anyway it is very hard to act with one of your best pals. But with that said it’s a lot of fun. We constantly say to each other “don’t make me laugh, don’t make me laugh, stop, stop, don’t, stop”.
It’s very hard I mean it’s kind of silly that I’m her boss and you know I got to tell her what to do and what not to do, all this stuff.
So half of the time that you’re watching us you know act all we’re trying to do is not laugh or smile or make each other giggle.”
