"And I know, first-hand, how very special the people of this city are. I owe this victory, all of it, to my friends, and my supporters. No one achieves anything alone. So let’s embark on a new journey together.”
Prior to the events that trigger the Kaiju War, Herc was a Royal Australian Air Force pilot. At some point he met a woman named Angela and married her. August 14, 2003, Angela gave birth to their son, Chuck.
September 2, 2014, Sydney was attacked by Scissure. On duty, Herc used a Bell Kiowa to enter the city. With only enough time to reach one person, Herc headed for Chuck’s school and escaped the city before the second nuclear missile strike occurs. Afterward, Stacker Pentecost told him the Kaiju had killed his wife.
Herc Hansen had sacrificed everything for this boy, and Chuck would always hate him for it.
Yancy and Raleigh were born and raised comfortably in Anchorage with their mother and father. Their parents would take them on trips, traveling to such places as Munich and Budapest where they celebrate his brother’s eleventh birthday in Budapest, pretending to be superheroes with their mother’s lighter.
Yancy was eighteen and Raleigh was fifteen when Trespasser attacked San Francisco in 2013. He and his brother watched the attack as it was broadcasted on television. Some time afterward, their mother was diagnosed with cancer. Despite her illness, she continued to smoke cigarettes until her death at an unknown point. After she was buried, their father abandoned them. The two decide to forgo school to join the Jaeger Program.
There was blood in Raleigh’s eyes and a hole the shape of his brother in his soul.
The tension between Hansen and his son Charles also might affect the strength and duration of their drift. Hansen carries a burden of guilt over difficulties in raising his son after his wife’s death. This too is expected to affect the father-son drift, if it has not already.
