In “Pittura Infamante,” Ichabod and Abbie attended a party, where they stumbled upon… a murder. Did the hour usher in the “more episodic, less serialized” Sleepy Hollow Fox was talking about at TCA?
I didn’t come to Sleepy Hollow for the relationship struggles, I didn’t come to watch Ichabod and Katrina try to navigate their marriage in the 21st century. I came to Sleepy Hollow for the Headless Horseman, who used to ride through the streets with a shotgun. I came for the frightening demons who wanted to jumpstart the apocalypse. But most importantly, I came for the charismatic partnership between Ichabod and Abbie, the two witnesses who wanted to stop it all. In short, I do not care that once a long time ago Katrina was besties with Abigail Adams, and I certainly don’t care that Abigail Adams really loved her fancy china or her writing desk. I’ve been kinder than most fans to Katrina, often giving her the benefit of the doubt (or ignoring her all together because there were more important matters to be death with), but ”Pittura Infamante” felt like a Katrina showcase, and by the end of the episode she’d managed to use up a lot of oxygen and still remain the same lifeless character she’s always been.
